BETFRED REVIEW 2024 - SPORTS BETTING REVIEW

OUR OPINIONS ABOUT BETFRED

  • A good range of long-standing betting promotions for existing customers
  • Excellent live in-play service.
  • Competitive odds for football betting

Online-Betting Rating:

In this Betfred review, our betting experts explore the features of the operator from how competitive their football betting odds are, to market variety. Betfred have a great story behind them and they are a highly recognisable brand.

The Betfred UK empire started as a single betting shop back in 1967 in Northern England. The money to open their first shop came after brothers Fred and Peter had succesfully backed England to win the FIFA World Cup in the previous year.

They had some humble beginnings in the northwest, and the growth of their business to where it is today has been described as a “rags to riches story”.

The bookmaker has grown to be one of the largest independent bookmakers in the world. They remain an independent bookmaker to this day, and they try to keep themselves in touch with punters by being a fun and friendly operator.

They are big sponsors of sports, notably snooker and UK Racing in particular and in 2017, the year that they celebrated their 50th year, Betfred became the shirt sponsor of football club Bolton, who were in the Championship at the time.

One of the biggest betting moments in football that Betfred are famous for, happened in 1998. Betfred (at the time known as Done Bookmakers) paid out early on Manchester United winning the Premier League title. The Red Devils had been 12 points clear at the time, but they were eventually overhauled by the title-winning Arsenal in a dramatic finish.

With a highly recognisable brand, they are one of the main players in a competitive industry. So to break down this Betfred review into bite-size chunks for punters, other areas that we look at include customer service, payment methods and the design of their website.

Betfred has a big reputation and we will kick things off with a look at how to open an account with them.

Registration Process – 3.5/5

To get an account with Betfred there is a short and easy process to go through. There is a green ‘Register’ button on their website which kicks things off.

The nice thing about the Betfred sign-up process is that it is broken down into clear sections, starting with the account username and password creation.

The second page of the registration process is where you will share a few basic personal details with them like your name and birthdate.

The next part of the process is to supply contact information. In case Betfred needs to get a hold of you, you need to give them an email and a telephone number.

You can determine a security question that they will check with you when you contact Betfred customer service over the phone or in a live chat.

The next page only requires the user to fill in one data field and that is the postcode. That will search for your physical address which you need to put in.

The final page of the Betfred registration is to do with settings. Put your details in there like currency, how you want to receive communications. The last thing you do is hit the ‘Register’ button and the account will be set up.

All in all, this feels like a slightly longer-winded sign-up process than you will get at a lot of other bookmakers.

Sites like Coral and Unibet for example, only have a couple of pages in their account sign-up form that you need to go through.

While the amount of information that you input is roughly the same, the Betfred sign-up feels like a protracted experience against some other sites. So that does prevent us from giving the Betfred account registration a higher rating.

After setting up the account you do need to go and add funds to your account so that you can start playing. We look at payment options in the next section of this Betfred review.

Deposits & Withdrawals - 3.5/5

Deposits

To deposit a payment at Betfred you can go to “My Account” once you have logged in. From there you will see the ‘Deposit’ button and a click on that will bring up the box you need to start a payment.

Betfred provides plenty of variety when it comes to making a payment to an account. T

here are the usual banking and Debit Card options through Visa and Mastercard that can be used to fund the account. They also supply third-party e-wallet options like PayPal.

Deposits

Method Minimum Maximum Processing Time
Debit Card £5 £20,000 Instant
Neteller £5 £15,000 Instant
Bank Transfer £10 n/a Instant
Skrill £5 £8,000 Instant
PayPal £5 £15,000 Instant

As is common practice with bookmakers, Betfred ideally wants to send money back to the source that funded the account. If that’s not possible you would likely have to supply them with further documentation to verify another source, which just makes it a little more complicated.

Betfred do not charge customers any fees for deposit or withdrawals. Also, note that processing times are just guidelines. Some methods like bank transfers can take a lot longer.

Withdrawals

Method Minimum Maximum Processing Time
Debit Card £5 £20,000 1-3 days
Neteller £5 £15,000 3 hours
Bank Transfer £10 n/a 1-3 day
Skrill £5 £8,000 3 hours
PayPal £5 £15,000 3 hours

Site Layout – 3.5/5

In terms of the website layout, Betfred did not rank as highly as some competitors. It is clean and simple to use, it and everything just operates from the centre of the screen.

So if you click a menu link for football, for example, the results will be there. Then you click again to get deeper into the sportsbook.

It’s perhaps not the easiest of navigation system and the page fills out across the entire width of the screen. If you were looking at the Premier League outright market then the names of the teams are on the left of the screen and the odds are all the way on the right.

It’s not the easiest of reads, and the site just feels like it should be on a smaller screen. For that, the operation on the Betfred app, or even through their mobile site is a little more preferable than on their main website.

In terms of the site legibility, that does rate well. There is a lot of space between market listings, so the odds are easy to read. When you want to add odds to your bet slip, the slip will appear over on the right of the screen. It’s easy to configure your multi bets there and there is a tab in the bet slip to see any cashout offers.

There is a Betfred mobile app for punters to access events quickly and that is a nice feature to carry around. There are apps for both iOS and Android.

All the great features of the Betfred main website can be found on the app as well. That includes features like PickYourPunt, live streams and all the fantastic Racing Post data that is within the sportsbook.

Betfred offers their big promotions like Double Delight & Hattrick heaven over mobile as well, so it really is a full-on experience that you get with the app. But does it operate well?

We found that it did and it looked good with the main menu buttons at the bottom of the screen. Markets were quick to scroll through and navigation was a breeze. In the opinion of our betting experts, it is a more user-friendly experience than their main site.

The Betfred mobile app lends itself well to the in-play betting opportunities that are everywhere in the sportsbook. It is an extensive app for football betting both pre-match and in-play.

Rating 3.5/5

Odds - 4/5

Odds

The odds that can be found at Betfred are very good. They are an independent bookmaker, but stack up some great value for their punters, particularly with football betting.

The bookie margins are easily comparable to those of other big bookmakers like Ladbrokes and Coral.

So they really can’t be faulted in this area. As mentioned, the odds are presented very nicely and their bet slip is one of the more favourable ones that are out there.

You will see that when you start adding selections, the multiple bets section opens and you can quickly select the options that you want for that as well seeing the potential return.

Betfred are excellent for results in odds comparisons on match outright markets.

There are other ways to get even more from the odds at Betfred. They have plenty of options for existing customers like enhanced odds and acca insurance offers.

Rating 4/5

Markets & Events Coverage - 5/5

Markets

The usual markets flood the Betfred sportsbook with their main focus on football betting. While again, the menu navigation on the site isn’t the best we have experienced, that does not take away from the number of markets and bet variety that they have.

All the football markets that you would expect to see from a leading bookmaker are there. From the Premier League, to non-league and further afield to the most obscure leagues and competitions that you can think of, Betfred have it.

What about the market variety?

The listings of football matches at Betfred gives the outright odds and you have to click on a match to get further bets. Most operators like Boylesports for example will show you how many other betting options that are available for a match. But that’s not there at Betfred.

There are actually very good markets for football betting at Betfred. So they are there and when you do go into a fixture, you’ll find everything from Handicaps, Half-Time markets, Double Chance, combo bets and #PickYourPunt markets that punters have priced up.

While there is good variety there, we don’t think it carries as much weight compared to other highly-rated bookmakers like bet365. For the staples of football betting, you aren’t going to go wrong, however, with Betfred.

Totepool

We do need to quickly mention the excellent Totepool Betting options at Betfred, which is all done through a separate, dedicated Totepool section.

There is the Totepool placepot for example where the punter picks 6 selections to win or place. There are the straight Totepool win/place options on selections within horse races.

Other features include the Jackpot and Scoop6 where there are big committed prizes on offer for correctly selecting six winners. Also to be found within the Totepool section at Betfred are other features like Exacta, Trifecta and Quadpot options.

So for those who are Tote fanciers then there is a great range of products at Betfred.

Betfred’s Football Offering - 4.5/5

Football

Betfred have always resonated well when it comes to football betting options. There is a lot of coverage on there to enjoy.

Naturally for the UK punters, there is a plethora of stuff from the likes of the Premier League and other domestic tiers.

There are easily over 70+ markets available on the bigger football matches that we saw at Betfred.

Landing on a football match there will also be direct access to the Betfred #PickYourPunt feature, which is a same-game multi builder.

Very interestingly there are Key Stats provided on matches and that is not a feature that is too commonly found at online bookmakers in our experience. There is very good statistics integration in the Betfred football markets.

Other touches which looked good at the Betfred football section were things like predicted line-ups, and a bit of basic form.

The overall presentation of a football match is nice. Odds are very easy to read, with plenty of space between market options against a white background.

Also included in the Betfred football section is eSports football markets. Overall the coverage of football matches from club friendlies to the top competitions like the Copa Libertadores, UEFA Champions League and so on is tremendous.

In-Play Football Betting

There is an extensive in-play section at Betfred for football. They throw a lot of markets out there. There are easily over 50 in-play markets that are commonly found in an in-play football match.

Click through to a match that is in progress and you will get a nice screen with the match details and a text commentary. The markets extended to plenty of handicaps, totals, goalscorer markets and more.

All the markets are listed directly beneath but you can change to filter the options that you see through a quick click of a tab, so if you just want to see the goalscorer markets, then you click that.

While there are a lot of games being covered from across the world, note that only selected ones will apply to the Double Delight Hattrick Heaven in-play offer.

There is a nice graphical pitch view of a match that is happening. That’s backed up with some good stats and key moments in the game.

Price changes within the markets are indicated by a drifting red or a shortening green and are easy to spot.

Live in-play football betting is quick and easy and there is a lot of good value, in our experience, to be found with Betfred.

Rating 4.5/5

Streaming – 3/5

There is live-streaming available at Betfred, but it isn’t as extensive as that which we have seen at other bookmakers, notably Unibet who are excellent for this feature.

Betfred do provide customers with the ability to watch different sports, which includes football.

If you go to the in-play section and see a game marked up with the ‘Watch Live’ link then you can get in on the action. We would just note that you shouldn’t anticipate a lot of football streams, however.

To watch a sports stream at Betfred you do need to have a funded account. That can be the very minimum of £0.01 in your cash balance. The bulk of the streaming options at Betfred are for racing and greyhounds.

Betfred live streams can be accessed automatically through their mobile betting app through their media player.

Existing Customer Offers - 5/5

Customer Offers

Betfred have always been great at providing customers with promotions. Arguably their flagship betting promotion is their Double Delight Hattrick Heaven.

There are two versions of this football betting offer, one for pre-match options and one for live in-play. They work the same, apart from the pre-match is for the First Goalscorer market, the in-play version works from the Next Goalscorer market.

What is the Betfred Double Delight Hat Trick Heaven? This Betfred bonus allows a punter to get double or treble odds on a correct goalscorer selection. The existing customer offer does not apply to all matches, only selected ones, which can be found list on the relevant promotional page.

Place a pre-match single bet on the first goalscorer market on a specified Betfred Double Delight & Hat-Trick Heaven game.

Customer Service and site security - 4.5/5

Customer Service

The Betfred help section can be accessed through the main sportsbook menu by scrolling down a bit.

When you click on the help it will bring up a page of frequently asked questions.

There were a fair amount of those on there but the lack of a search button was a bit of a niggle in our experience.

To make contact with Betfred, there are several ways as listed below. The site is secure with all the usual encryption to protect transactions and personal details. Betfred are licenced and regulated by the Gambling Commission.

What Safer Gambling Tools Does Betfred Use?

Betfred has a wide range of options and tools for safer gambling. On their site, they even include third-party apps to help anyone who may be struggling. Lets take a look and see what they’ve got:

  • Deposit limits
  • Time out tool
  • Reality Checks

Third-party recommendations include Gamblock and Netnanny. These can be used to restrict access to anything on the net, not just betting sites.

What do other sites say?

Betfred have been around a fair while, so they have a huge client base and that in turn leads to plenty of available reviews.

We’ll start with a positive comment from The Cheeky Punter site that states “Betfred comes out top of the pile on promotions” which we also found to be very relevant when doing our Betfred review.

The Trustpilot site, which is largely a sounding board for the disgruntled, gives Betfred a rating of 3/5 which isn’t bad at all. One commentary praised their payouts saying “had a couple of big withdrawals and have received the same day or next”.

The TPP rates them 5/5 with them being a bookmaker “worthy of a recommendation.” So positive experiences can be had with the bookmaker.

Betfred Review Rating - 4/5

Rating Review

Overall, the quality and amount of features that are found at the site give Betfred some big appeal. They are excellent for promotions that existing customers are probably going to enjoy.

They are competitive, if not always specular with quality of odds as well and that makes them a very strong player in the industry.

There is a niggle over their website design, which doesn’t come up to par with a lot of the other bookmaker options out there.

But it is a different experience when you move over to their app, which is excellent and well worth checking out. The navigation of markets is just so much easier on mobile.

When it all comes down to it at the end of the day, the stand-out thing about Betfred is the sportsbook variety and value. That is likely to be the key thing for punters at the end of the day, looking to get those football bets together.

Remember, this is an independent bookmaker with a tremendous amount of trading power.

We believe that’s a big thing for any Betfred new customer to consider. Throw in the extra features on top along with very good Betfred apps, then the bookmaker earns a high rating from us.
