Preview: We’re into the second round of the 2022-23 Superliga season in Denmark where defending champions FC Copenhagen are seeking their first win of the campaign after slipping up at home first time round. Can they atone inside Aalborg Portland Park, a ground in which they’ve come away with the three points on all four recent visits?

Aalborg – That winning feeling feels oh so distant?

Limping home in fifth last season, collecting a single point from their final seven Superliga fixtures. The aim from the off in 2022-23 would have been to avoid falling into old habits. In that respect it was mission failed. They were beaten 2-1 on the road by Viborg but must wonder how after spurning the opportunity to escape Energi Viborg Arena with a hard-earned draw; Iver Fossum missing his penalty in the 92nd minute.

This now constitutes the club’s worst run of league results (D1 L7) in more than five years. However, it has been almost 15 years since De Rode lost their first two fixtures in the top division. That statistic, however, can be offset with the fact they would lose each of the last four times they welcomed FC Copenhagen to Aalborg, where, in Superliga 2021-22, AaB accrued fewer points (W6 D2 L8) than all bar three teams.

Key Stat: Aalborg have scored in each of their last four Danish Superliga home games, though still ended up losing their last three at Aalborg Portland Park. Six of seven previous home league defeats, meanwhile, were despite getting on the scoresheet.

FC Copenhagen – Response of champions imminent?

During the first round of the 2022-23 Danish Superliga, Jess Thorup’s men became the fifth reigning league champion not to begin their title defence with a win the following season as they succumbed to a 1-0 home defeat to newly-promoted Horsens. FC Copenhagen would lose twice across sixteen Superliga home games on route to a 14th league title last term, but are already halfway to that total after one game.

Just how FCK lost their opener remains a mystery, after they dominated proceedings inside Parken Stadium. On another day, 76% possession, 21 goals attempts, seven shots on target and 11 corners to the opponents 1 would easily suffice for three points. Instead they were beaten ‘to nil’ as the 1/3 favourites. For what it is worth, they have never previously failed to score across their opening two fixtures in Superliga.

Key Stat: FC Copenhagen have won all three previous league encounters with Aalborg, doing so without conceding in the last two. FCK would also prevail the last four times the sides met in Aalborg.

Aalborg Vs FC Copenhagen Betting Advice

You can rarely keep a good team down, and FC Copenhagen are out to show this is indeed the case. Their recent record against Sunday’s opponents, having won the past three Superliga meetings – two without conceding – but also the last four in Aalborg, suggests a win to offset last weekend’s shock 1-0 home loss to newly-promoted Horsens is inevitable. But rarely is it that simple in football.

Aalborg Vs FC Copenhagen – Key Facts:

  • FC Copenhagen are bidding for their fourth successive Superliga win against Aalborg. The latter would also lose the previous four encounters between the sides as hosts.
  • Aalborg are currently winless in eight Superliga fixtures (D1 L7), their worst run since 2017. Each of their last three home games seen them lose despite scoring, though did fail to open the scoring in every one of these contests.
  • Danish champions FC Copenhagen could boast the best away record last season as they won 10 of 16 said fixtures (D4 L2), scoring 29 and conceding only 10 (both figures were the best in the league).

Also working in the visitors favour is the form of Aalborg, who are now winless across eight Superliga fixtures (D1 L7). They probably should have took a point in their season opener away to Viborg but didn’t, prolonging what is now the club’s worst league run for five years. Invariably, though, AaB do score at home, scoring in 13 of 16 home games last term. Nevertheless, FCK’s head-to-head dominance should hold up.
