During the first round of the 2022-23 Danish Superliga, Jess Thorup’s men became the fifth reigning league champion not to begin their title defence with a win the following season as they succumbed to a 1-0 home defeat to newly-promoted Horsens. FC Copenhagen would lose twice across sixteen Superliga home games on route to a 14th league title last term, but are already halfway to that total after one game.
Just how FCK lost their opener remains a mystery, after they dominated proceedings inside Parken Stadium. On another day, 76% possession, 21 goals attempts, seven shots on target and 11 corners to the opponents 1 would easily suffice for three points. Instead they were beaten ‘to nil’ as the 1/3 favourites. For what it is worth, they have never previously failed to score across their opening two fixtures in Superliga.
