Accrington Stanley will be going in search of a fourth home win from five matches on Saturday afternoon when they play host to lowly Cheltenham Town at their Wham Stadium, which in turn could also lift them up into second spot in League Two.
Stanley have made an impressive start to the new League Two season as they currently occupy third place and have shown early encouraging form on home turf as well having secured wins over Colchester United, Mansfield Town and Carlisle United amidst an overall record of 3-0-1 9/4.
The goals have been fairly flying in too, and along with Luton Town, Accrington are the league’s highest goal-scorers to date. They did lose last time out on home turf to Grimsby Town, but with the likes of strikers Kee and Jackson (5 goals apiece) on fire, the home side should bounce back today.
Visitors Cheltenham Town have made a much more circumspect start to their new campaign as they’ve collected just two league wins from their first eight matches played overall, with both wins coming at their Whaddon Road ground with victories over Crawley Town and Colchester United.
However, it’s one thing to win at home against fellow bottom half opposition, but an entirely different prospect in a long trip up north to face an in-form and confident Accrington Stanley who are flying high at the moment.
The Robins have earned just one point from the last possible 12 on offer on the road thanks to a 0-0 draw at Yeovil Town, but defeats at Morecambe, Carlisle United and Newport County suggest they could struggle again this afternoon against superior opposition.
