Onto League One and AFC Wimbledon prepare for the visit of top of the table Portsmouth as the betting tips continue on Saturday afternoon in the English lower leagues.
Wimbledon are perched just above the relegation zone in League One following a poor run of results which have seen The Wombles lose four of their last five in the third tier with losses to Scunthorpe United, Accrington Stanley, Bradford City and Plymouth Argyle.
The hosts’ only success during this sequence was a 2-1 home win over bottom club Oxford United, but they’ll be wary of a possible backlash on Saturday afternoon against a Portsmouth side still smarting from their defeat last weekend.
AFC Wimbledon’s home record this season stands at a poor 1-1-4 6/10 and they’ve managed just four wins from their last 15 matches at their Cherry Red Records Fans’ Stadium. Forward Pigott (4 goals) looks to be the home side’s main goal threat.
Portsmouth still remain top of League One despite last weekend’s 2-0 shock defeat at home to Gillingham but they were helped by Barnsley who registered a heavy 4-0 defeat upon second placed Peterborough United which resulted in Pompey staying top of the division with a three-point cushion.
Nevertheless, Kenny Jackett’s men will be desperate to set the record straight at Wimbledon this Saturday, and with an impressive away record that stands at 5-1-0 10/4 under their belts so far this season, there’s no reason that the south coast side can’t get something from their trip to London.
Wins at Bristol Rovers, Peterborough United, Rochdale and Coventry City show that Portsmouth deserve their current league position, but they need to bounce back here today if they want to hold onto top spot I feel.
Again, my betting tips advise keeping the draw on the side of Portsmouth at reasonable odds.
