Antwerp Preview – Can Antwerp produce response?
A 3-2 loss away from home at Mechelen in last week’s opening game of this new Belgian top flight season saw Antwerp off to a losing start in their bid to perhaps go one step better this time around and claim a possible First Division A title.
Antwerp finished last season runners-up to title-winners, Club Brugge, but in truth they were some way off the pace as a significant margin of 16 points separated them from the league winners, but at least Antwerp pipped Anderlecht to a place in the Europa League qualifiers.
Antwerp recorded a last day 1-0 home win over Anderlecht to end a miserable run of five games without a win and having lost just two of their last eight games at home and having won their previous four meetings on the trot against Kortrijk, Antwerp will be confident they can bounce back with a win here.
Kortrijk Preview – Can Kortrijk continue good start?
Despite a pretty disappointing campaign in last season’s First Division A, Kortrijk got themselves off to a winning start this time around as they registered a solid 2-0 home win over new-boys, RFC Seraing, in last week’s opening game of the season.
Kortrijk finished fifth from bottom at the end of last season’s regular campaign which was largely due to losing five of their last six matches in the run-in towards the end of last term, while also winning just three of their last 12 matches on their travels.
Two of these three wins were against eventually relegated Excel Mouscron and Waasland-Beveren, so this upcoming trip to face Antwerp could be a tough test indeed for the visitors.
