Taking a quick break from the international action, I’m now switching over to the Brazilian top flight briefly to take a look at the Sunday evening local derby between Atletico Mineiro and America Mineiro as the betting tips continue in Serie A.
Atletico Mineiro currently occupy the last Copa Libertadores qualifiers spot ahead of their encounter with America, and although they still remain some way off of an automatic Copa Libertadores berth, they’ll fancy their chances of edging a little closer this evening.
The hosts have posted mixed results in recent weeks in Serie A as they’ve recorded wins against Atletico PR and Sport Recife at their Estádio Raimundo Sampaio, but have also fallen to defeats away at Flamengo and Chapecoense.
Atletico will therefore be looking to make the most of home advantage again today and with an impressive home record that stands at 10-2-2 28/13 under their belts so far this season, they’ll be confident of claiming a fourth consecutive home win here this evening.
America Mineiro don’t have to travel too far for this away match as they share the same ground with this evening’s opponents, but they’re on an ordinary looking run of form at the moment as they’re without a win from their last five league matches overall.
This disappointing sequence of results has now left them dangerously close to the relegation zone as they hold a slender two point cushion ahead of fourth from bottom club, Ceara, ahead of this Sunday’s action in Serie A.
America have also lost three of their last four away from home (although this is probably a moot point), following defeats against Vitoria, Botafogo and Atletico PR, but perhaps the most pertinent statistic is that America have managed to score just once in their last five matches overall.
