For a week at least, this group of players got to experience what it was like being on top of the league table. Any aspirations of winning their division outright are fading, however, falling six points behind Philadelphia Union after conceding local bragging rights when losing last weekend’s River Hudson Derby.
Defeat to New York City, albeit by the solitary goal, followed a 1-1 stalemate on the road at FC Cincinnati. Their form prior to that, though, was a healthy W3 L1, so it is probably too early for panic stations. What will concern head coach Gerhard Struber is the lack of goals his side are scoring, with that a third game in a row scoring no more than once – and the sixth time that has happened across a nine-game stretch.
