Azerbaijan Preview – De Biasi’s men to move on to six points?

Azerbaijan kicked off their 2020-21 Nations League campaign with a 2-1 home defeat to Luxembourg. Despite taking the lead at the Olympic Stadium in Baku, an own goal and a penalty turned the game on its head in Luxembourg’s favour.

On matchday two, however, Gianni De Biasi’s men claimed an excellent win over Cyprus at the GSP Stadium in Nicosia. Maksim Medvedev’s goal in the first half proved to be enough in the eventual 1-0 away victory.

Our betting prediction:
Azerbaijan to win -1
7/2

Azerbaijan failed to build on their win in Nicosia, as they were beaten by group leaders Montenegro last time out. The Azerbaijanis were second best at the City Stadium in Podgorica, crashing to a deserved 2-0 defeat.

Victory on Tuesday will get them back on track in League C, Group 1, but overhauling in-form Montenegro will take some doing. Still, can De Biasi’s boys get three points in Elbasan?

Cyprus Preview – Another Nations League defeat for the Cypriots?

Since taking over in January, Belgian Johan Walem has had a tough time as manager of Cyprus. The Cypriots sit rock bottom of Group C1, losing all three matches thus far. They have yet to score a single goal, conceding five at the other end.

Cyprus’ campaign began with a 2-0 defeat to Montenegro in Nicosia. Walem’s men followed that up with a 1-0 loss to Azerbaijan on home turf on matchday two. Cyprus then suffered another Nations League reverse last weekend, as they were beaten 2-0 by Luxembourg at the City Stadium.

Cyprus look nailed on to finish bottom of the group. If they do, the Cypriots will face a relegation play-off, which could see them drop down to Nations League D, the bottom tier of the new tournament. Cyprus will be desperate to avoid defeat in Albania in midweek.

Azerbaijan vs Cyprus Betting Advice

Azerbaijan and Cyprus have only ever met on one occasion before. The reverse game in Nicosia last month was the first ever match between thew two nations. Azerbaijan edged it at the GSP Stadium, with Medvedev scoring the only goal of the game.

Key Facts – Azerbaijan vs Cyprus Betting Tip

  • Tuesday’s game in Albania will be just the second ever meeting between the two countries
  • Azerbaijan won 1-0 in Cyprus last month
  • Cyprus have lost three out of three and failed to score a goal in this season’s Nations League

Cyprus head to the Elbasan Arena in dreadful form. Unfortunately for them, we can see the away side falling to another damaging defeat. Even though this one is taking place in Albania and not Baku, Azerbaijan will fancy their chances of getting the job done.

As we mentioned, Cyprus have yet to score a Nations League goal, and we fancy Azerbaijan to come out on top and keep a clean sheet on Tuesday. Back De Biasi’s men to win to nil at 9/4.
