Bayern Munich Preview – Can Bayern clinch what would be a second World Cup and continue their run of success?
Hans Flick has been a winning machine at Bayern since taking charge just over a year ago. He led them to a runaway success in last season’s Bundesliga, easily dispatched RB Leipzig in the German Cup final and the crowning achievement of winning the 2019/20 Champions League. The first time Bayern have been European champions since 2013. Thrown in a German Super Cup as well and he now sets his team’s sights on world glory.
Bayern have only contested the final of this match once before (beating Raja Casablanca 2-0 eight years ago) although they did win it’s predecessor, the Intercontinental Cup, a couple of times as well.
Tigres UNAL Preview – Will it be a winning debut appearance for the first Mexican club to contest this final?
Winning the 2019 Clausura Championship in Mexico back in 2019 earned Tigres the opportunity to represent their country in last season’s CONCACAF Champions League – and it turned out to be a historic involvement. Tigres won their first ever continental tournament when beating Los Angeles in the final towards the end of December. And they have continued that form into this competition, too.
Tigres defeated Asian champions Ulsan 2-1 before turning in an excellent performance to beat recently crowned Copa Libertadores winners Palmeiras in the semi-final. The veteran French striker Andre Pierre Gignac was the hero in that match and also scored both goals against the South Koreans.

Gignac has been excellent all season in fairness and scored arguably the club’s most important goal in their history – the winning strike against Los Angeles. He has six goals in his last six matches and 21 in all competitions. Despite his advancing years he will be the biggest threat to Bayern on Thursday.
Unsurprisingly due to their commitments elsewhere, Tigres’ league form has suffered somewhat. They are just sixth in the Apertura and 12 points behind leaders Leon. Brazilian head coach Ricardo Ferretti would surely be happy sacrificing the league if his team can complete what would be a historic cup double.
Bayern Munich vs Tigres UNAL Betting Advice
As well as Tigres have done in cup competition of late, the bookmakers don’t believe they stand much of a chance against the power of Bayern. The Germans are big favourites to add a second World Club Cup to their cabinet but as alluded to above, there are apparent threats to that predicted victory.
Bayern have not been flawless and are showing some signs of tiredness whilst the threat of Gignac will loom large.

These cross-continent games are often hard to judge. Not only do the teams not play each other but matches betwene these different styles of football are also rare. Nine of the 16 finals have finished with two or fewer goals and that’s the way I’m going for this.
Tigres will set up similarly to their semi-final win over Palmeiras and Bayern have not been at their brilliant best of late.
