Preview: Defending Eliteserien champions Bodo/Glimt are on the rise, climbing up to fourth in the table after picking up 12 of the last 15 points available. They welcome struggling FK Jerv to Aspmyra Stadion next, having eased to a 4-0 win, in June 2017, in the pair’s sole previous encounter at this venue.

Bodo/Glimt – Norway’s finest desperate to atone for midweek shocker?

With this fixture sandwiched between an important Champions League qualifier, head coach Kjetil Knutsen has a dilemma on his hands when going about selecting his starting XI for Saturday’s visit of second-from-bottom FK Jerv. On paper this appears one of their more straightforward assignments of the entire season. However, a couple personnel changes here and there could complicate an otherwise simple task.

Of course, there might not have been much of a dilemma at all had they not been turned over, as an overwhelmingly strong favourite I should add, on Tuesday in Northern Ireland. Instead they lost 1-0 to Linfield and know there is work to do when the teams reconvene on Wednesday in Norway. Nonetheless, a Bodo/Glimt boasting four wins from their past five Eliteserien fixtures should bounce back with minimal fuss.

Key Stat: Bodo/Glimt would score two or more in each of their last five Eliteserien fixtures, and in seven of their last eight.

Jerv – Promoted outfit should carry a threat?

Despite opening the scoring in each of their last two fixtures, FK Jerv came away from encounters against Sandefjord and Rosenborg with nothing to show for their endeavours, beaten 2-1 at home and 3-2 away respectively. Those results continued what has been a constant theme throughout the season for the promoted side, having lost 64% of their Eliteserien fixtures in 2022 (W3 D2 L9) to sit 15th of 16.

As if to make matters worse, they are on the road this coming weekend – against the reigning Norwegian champions no less! Head coach Arne Sandsto’s team do not tend to travel well in this company, losing all but one of six away league games whilst putting up some of the worst scoring figures – 4 scored, 14 conceded – in the division. However, just two of five away losses so far were by a wide margin (2+ goals).

Key Stat: Having scored in just four of their first nine Eliteserien fixtures, FK Jerv are currently enjoying a run of five consecutive games scoring at least one goal.

Bodo/Glimt Vs Jerv Betting Advice

Tuesday’s humbling outcome in Belfast should ensure we see a strong reaction from Norway’s reigning league champions, Bodo/Glimt. From spanking Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma last season to losing away in the Faroe Islands and Northern Ireland this season, these past few weeks has been quite the reality check for Kjetil Knutsen’s men. They should, though, bounce back on Saturday against modest opposition.

Bodo/Glimt Vs FK Jerv – Key Facts:

  • The sides have met only twice before, when both competed in OBO-Ligaen – Norway’s second division – in 2017. Bodo/Glimt were victorious home (4-0) and away (1-4), scoring exactly four in both games.
  • Bodo/Glimt are coming off four wins in their last five Eliteserien matches (L1). Four out of seven home league games this season featured four or more goals.
  • FK Jerv have lost successive league games ahead of their visit to the Norwegian champions. Their ability to regularly find the net has improved, netting at least once in all of their past five Eliteserien fixtures.

With a wretched away record this season (D1 L6) and a 4-0 loss to show for their only visit to Bodo/Glimt’s Aspmyra Stadion, it seems highly unlikely FK Jerv come away with anything other than another road loss. A consolation goal for the visitors is, however, plausible. Bodo/Glimt wouldn’t manage a clean sheet in six of their seven Eliteserien home games this year while Jerv are seeking to score for the sixth game running.
