French Ligue 1
Pick: Draw
Odds: 9/4

Preview: There was nothing to split these teams last season – apart from the league table which had them separated by seven positions and four points, in favour of Nice – with both Ligue 1 meetings ending 1-1. Another closely-fought encounter seems inevitable therefore at Bordeaux‘s Matmut Atlantique stadium.

Bordeaux Preview – Draw specialists lacking in goal department?

A far from spectacular showing from Bordeaux so far this season has seen them collect five points from four games (W1 D2 L1), losing just the once. Goals have been scarce, though, netting three times having failed to net at all twice already. Yet this is a team that has now lost only two of the last twelve Ligue 1 games (W3 D7 L2), stretching back to January of last season, and with a penchant for drawing.

Jean Louis Gasset is not garnering many fans among the neutrals, that is for sure. Seven draws across eleven previous top-flight matches is an astonishingly high amount, with three of those – including each of the last two, which both occurred this season – finishing scoreless. The 66-year-old has made this team difficult to beat, of that this is no doubt, but it is wins which bring about meaningful success.

Bordeaux initially opened with a 0-0 at home to Nantes. They then went and beat Angers 2-0 on the road, drew 0-0 for the second successive home game with Lyon, before then succumbing to a first defeat of 2020/21 away to newly-promoted Lens. A mixed bag, lacking any consistency whatsoever, and that makes them a volatile proposition from the perspective of punters.

Nice Preview – No need for panic despite successive defeats?

It is easy to forget that Nice were perched atop the Ligue 1 table after winning both of their opening league fixtures, producing clinical displays to inflict 2-1 and 0-2 defeats upon Lens and Strasbourg, respectively. This early momentum has rapidly diminished, though, on account of them losing their following two encounters in the league to Montpellier (3-0) and PSG (1-3). Conceding six times in the process.

In the early stages, Nice were outperforming their xG, particularly from an attacking sense, but have very quickly reverted to the mean, proving that their clinical edge in front of goal wasn’t sustainable. Of course, it doesn’t help to have arguably your most influential attacker out of action – and as things stand, Danish forward Kasper Dolberg is still undergoing a period in quarantine.

Nice need to start picking up points again, and quickly. It is worth noting how tricky their last two contests were, while we shouldn’t forget that Patrick Viera’s side had only been beaten once in 15 league games (W7 D6 L1) prior to their recent dip. They’ve lost one of the last six away (W2 D4), and though the majority were draws, one in particular stands out: the 1-1 scoreline in Bordeaux in the penultimate fixture of 2019/20 in March.

Bordeaux Vs Nice Betting Advice

Straight away the price about a draw leaps out. The current 9/4 available seems too big considering everything that we know. Bordeaux have shared the spoils in seven of their previous eleven Ligue 1 encounters while Nice, despite so far avoiding a drawn affair this season, did end up drawing six of their final eleven top-flight matches before last season was unceremoniously cut short.

Bordeaux Vs Nice – Key Facts

  • No more than one goal has been scored by Bordeaux in six of their last seven Ligue 1 home matches, with each of the previous five said matches ending in a draw.
  • Just the one defeat in their last seven away Ligue 1 games (W2 D4 L1) for Nice, though that did come in their most recent away outing (3-0 vs Montpellier).
  • Both Ligue 1 meetings in 2019/20 finished with a 1-1 scoreline, making it five draws between the teams across their previous nine Ligue 1 encounters.

Strengthening our case for the draw is the fact both Ligue 1 meetings between the sides in 2019/20 ended in identical fashion: in 1-1 draws. Five of the last nine ended all square, with the remaining four all settled by a solitary goal. Therefore, it would folly expecting anything other than a predictably tight affair in Southern France. 1-1 Draw.
