Following the first round of the FA Cup last week, National League action also returns this Saturday and my first pick features a top half encounter between home side, Boreham Wood, and visitors, Hartlepool United at Meadow Park.
Looking at Boreham Wood’s form first, and the hosts come into this clash on the back of a promising six match sequence without defeat which includes wins over Eastleigh and Chester, along with four stalemates too. It should be noted that both Eastleigh and Chester currently reside in the bottom half of the division. However, The Wood recorded a 2-1 win over Blackpool in the FA Cup last weekend.
Boreham Wood have also drawn their last two on the trot on home turf with stalemates against Halifax Town and Bromley in 1-1 and 2-2 draws respectively, amidst an overall solid record of 4-2-3 13/9. Two of Boreham Wood’s three defeats at home have been against top half opposition.
Visitors Hartlepool are on the road once again this Saturday following last week’s heavy 3-0 defeat in the first round of the FA Cup away at League Two outfit, Morecambe, and they’ll no doubt be looking to extend their recent good form in the National League where they too, have put together a six match unbeaten run.
The Pools have registered wins over Barrow, Solihull Moors and Torquay United, with the latter two wins being away from home. In addition, Hartlepool have drawn three of these last six with stalemates against Woking, Sutton United and Tranmere Rovers – with the former two opponents sitting in the top eight of the division.
Hartlepool’s away record stands at a reasonable looking 4-3-2 10/8 and they’re also unbeaten in their last six on their travels, winning four of these matches. Midfielder Franks (6 goals) is their leading goalscorer.
