Brisbane will complete their regular season at home to reigning champions Sydney FC on Saturday, with both teams knowing they will be competing in the playoffs for this year’s finals.

Brisbane Roar Preview – Will the Italians round off their preparations with a win?

A 2-1 win at home to Perth on Wednesday guaranteed Roar’s place in the playoffs and means they can now approach their final match in something of a more relaxed mood but also knowing they need a win to be sure of finishing in third spot which would ensure they play their next game at home against whoever finishes in 6th place (currently Macarthur). Central Coast, who sit in fourth, can still finish above Brisbane. They play Western United later on Saturday.

Adelaide and Macarthur who will also be in the playoffs have completed their regular season campaigns. It’s likely they will stay in fifth and sixth respectively unless there is a big goal swing in the Central Coast game.

Warren Moon has enjoyed his first full season in charge but knows the job is still only half done by getting his team into the playoffs. Brisbane – who have won to A-League titles – have not made it past the first round of the playoffs since 2017 and not been to the final since their last triumph in 2014.

If they are to progress further then much will depend on the form of Riku Danzaki. The Japanese midfielder is the club’s top scorer having moved last year. Danzaki has nine goals in 21 league games and scored the decisive goal in the win over Perth last time out.

Sydney Preview – Can the Czech Republic pull of a surprise result to build confidence ahead of the Euros?

No team has won more A-League titles more than Sydney and the current champions are hoping to add a sixth success which would also be their fourth in the last five years. Unlike last year, they won’t finish top of the league this time around, though, but have qualified for the final series courtesy of finishing second behind Melbourne City.

Steve Corica has led them to glory in the last two seasons and will be hoping to do so again with a club where he has so much history and achievements with. It was big shoes to fill following Steve Arnold’s departure in 2018.

Sydney have finished the regular season very strongly with four straight wins and losing only one of their 12 in the league. That’s ominous form for the other teams heading into knockout football where this team are traditionally very dominant.

Veteran Brazilian striker Bobo has been a shrewd re-signing for the club. Having scored 42 goals in two seasons between 2016 and 2018 he has notched 11 for this campaign and the much-travelled forward has scored in each of his last three matches.

Brisbane Roar vs Sydney Betting Advice

Home advantage in the playoffs will be important for Brisbane so there is more on this game for them than there is for their opponents. As such, it might well be a Sydney team with a few changes as Corica gives his players a bit of a rest before their first finals game. Depending on finishing places and results in the elimination finals, this could yet be one of the semi-finals.

There has been nothing to separate these teams in their last three meetings with all of the ending in draws, including both meetings earlier in this season.

Key Facts – Brisbane Roar vs Sydney Betting Tip

  • Brisbane need to better Central Coast’s result to ensure they finish in third spot and  play their elimination final at home
  • Sydney are assure of a home semi-final as they bid to win their third straight A-League title
  • The last three meetings between these two have ended in draws including 1-1 in Brisbane last time out

With nothing between the teams in recent times I’m inclined to back that trend to continue here and select another draw. They have drawn seven and eight games respectively this season so take that as a the result on this occasion.
