Bristol Rovers will want to build upon last weekend’s League One win over Rotherham United when they are once again at their Memorial Ground for this Saturday afternoon’s clash with Southend United, as the hosts look to pull further away from the bottom four.
A string of three defeats on the trot threatened to plunge Bristol Rovers nearer the relegation zone, but a much needed three points in a 2-1 home win over Rotherham United has relieved some of the immediate danger. Nevertheless, The Pirates are still only four points above the drop zone.
Dave Clarke’s side possess a home record of 6-0-4 18/16 at the Memorial Ground and they seem to only deal in either wins or defeats so far this season, but the home side have generally been hard to beat on home turf as they’ve lost just five matches from their last 23 league games. Forwards Gaffney and Harrison (6 goals apiece) are the ones to watch in attack.
Visitors Southend United, by comparison, currently occupy a much loftier league position in League One as they sit in 9th place and still remain unbeaten at Roots Hall so far this season, which has been the main reason why they sit in the top half of the division.
The Shrimps have been in pretty solid form in the last two months as they’ve lost just once in their last seven league matches, but a closer look at their results away from home will tell you that they’ve won just twice away from home all season, with a poor record of 2-2-6 11/22 to their names.
Indeed, Southend have won just twice in their last 11 on the road overall, and they may do well to get a point in Bristol on Saturday.
