After going three games without a win, Phil Parkinson’s Sunderland will be hoping to return to winning ways when they take on Bristol Rovers in EFL League One at the Memorial Stadium on Tuesday night. The Black Cats are in fifth place at present, three points away from the automatic positions, while Rovers are down in 15th. Who will come out on top in this big League One clash in Bristol?

Bristol Rovers Preview – Can the Pirates avoid a fourth straight defeat?

Since a 2-1 home win over Blackpool last month, Bristol Rovers have lost three in a row in League One. After Graham Coughlan left to take over at Mansfield Town, Rovers have picked up just one win under new boss Ben Garner.

Last weekend, the Gas fell to a poor defeat to Southend United, who look nailed on for relegation this season. Despite Jayden Mitchell-Lawson’s leveller just after half time, Sol Campbell’s struggling Shrimpers went on to secure a convincing 3-1 victory at Roots Hall.

Bristol Rovers’ recent win over Blackpool was their first home win in any competition since a 4-2 triumph over Southend on December 7th. In their last home fixture, the Pirates were beaten 1-0 by Shrewsbury Town in late February.

Only seven teams have secured fewer home points than Rovers this term, as they have taken a mere 24 points from a possible 51 at the Memorial Stadium. Getting anything from Tuesday’s clash with promotion chasing Sunderland will be a tall order for Rovers.

Sunderland Preview – Will the Black Cats return to winning ways in midweek?

Sunderland have been in excellent form over the past few months, winning nine of their last 15 league games. However, since beating Bristol Rovers 3-0 at the Stadium of Light to claim a fourth League One victory on the spin, Sunderland have taken just two points from their last three. Either side of a disappointing 1-0 loss to Coventry City were draws with Fleetwood Town and Gillingham.

Sunderland have blown hot and cold away from the Stadium of Light this season. They have been beaten just once on their own patch in League One, but they have already lost seven times on the road. However, they have won six of their other nine away league matches this term.

After a gut-wrenching play-off final defeat to Charlton Athletic last term, Sunderland would love to avoid the play-offs completely and gain automatic promotion back to the EFL Championship this time around. Phil Parkinson’s troops are just three points behind second-placed Rotherham United at present. Can the Black Cats seal a vital three points in Bristol on Tuesday night?

Bristol Rovers vs Sunderland Betting Advice

Sunderland have not won since beating Bristol Rovers 3-0 at the Stadium of Light last month. The Black Cats had to bide their time in that one, but Abu Ogogo’s sending off on the hour paved the way for a comfortable home win. Sunderland ran riot in the last 20 minutes, with Lynden Gooch, Charlie Wyke and Luke O’Nien netting in the 3-0 win.

Key Facts – Bristol Rovers vs Sunderland Betting Tip
