Cameroon Preview – Can Cameroon make it two wins from two?

This competition should have been staged in Cameroon but was eventually stripped due to turmoil off the field. There was even doubt in the days before that the country would even compete because of the unpaid bonuses. An agreement was reached and the tournament Is the better for it. The five-time winners are the second most successful nation in the competition and are also the defending champions. An excellent 2-1 win over Egypt in the final back in 2017 is an indication of all that is good about Cameroonian football. We got a more recent sign on Tuesday that this squad is also plenty capable. A 2-0 win over Guinea-Bissau got their defence off to the perfect start. Now under the stewardship of Dutch legend Clarence Seedorf, there is again an expectation that they can triumph this summer.

It may be a much-changed squad from two years ago but this is a nation who know how to win and that spirit can often go a long way.

Ghana Preview –Are Ghana capable of defeating Cameroon?

This Ghanaian team have been full of promise for the best part of a decade now stretching back to the 2010 World Cup. Having reached the quarter-finals on that occasion, and narrowly missing out on the final four, it was expected to be the start of a golden period. That has never materialised though despite a number of narrow misses. It was Cameroon who knocked them out the last African Cup of Nations at the semi-final stage. There will be obvious talk of revenge for Ghana but this competition is looking like the final opportunity for them to win something. It got off to a disappointing start, however, with a 2-2 draw against Benin. The Ayew brothers – Andre and Jordan – got on the scoresheet but they were unable to hold on after going down to 10 men.

Winners of the competition on four occasions, Ghana have only ever won it once outside of their home territory. They will have to improve for it to be a second.

Cameroon v Ghana Betting Advice

Although Cameroon were victorious when these sides met two years ago, it was a very close game. The opening goal came only in the 72nd minute before a clincher in injury time. The current champions approach this game knowing that they already have three points in the bag and are not needing to win. It’s not quite at that stage for Ghana either just yet, but their need is greater having dropped a couple of points earlier in the week.

Cameroon have been strong under Seedorf and are unbeaten in 2019 with four wins from five games. Ghana are on an unbeaten run of their own as well, though, with their last defeat coming in September last year. These are two powerhouses of African football with nine Cup of Nations between them. The expectation before the start of the group section would be that both qualify and that’s still a possibility. A draw would not be overly detrimental to either team’s chances and there’s good reason for that being the outcome. Seven of Ghana’s last 14 games have ended in a draw, as have five of Cameroon’s last 14. It looks a good value bet here.
