Although Thursday’s hosts, Club Tijuana, were handed a heavy 4-0 defeat away from home at the early Liga MX pacesetters, America, last time out, Tijuana will be keen to build upon their promising start at home where they registered a 3-1 win over Atlas.
This recent win became Club Tijuana’s second home win on the trot as they recorded a 3-2 win over Pachuca just before the lockdown was imposed which brought a halt to the Mexican top flight season, but just two defeats from their last seven matches at home will give Tijuana confidence ahead of this clash with Tigres.
An earlier win over Santos Laguna 2-1 along with points picked up in draws with America and Toluca in 1-1 draws prove that Tijuana are no pushovers, while their last meeting at home against Tigres ended in a worthy 1-1 draw.
Tigres Preview – Can Tigres build on solid start?
An opening day 3-0 win away from home at Necaxa in the Apertura got Tigres’s new season off to a flying start and they backed that impressive win up with a point in a 1-1 draw at home with Pachuca, placing Tigres in an early 4th place in the Mexican Liga MX.
The visitors bring a five-match unbeaten run into this clash with Club Tijuana having earlier recorded wins against Pumas UNAM and Juarez along with a draw with Puebla just before the season was brought to an early finish back in March.
However, results away from home haven’t been anywhere near as convincing as Tigres have won just one of their last six matches which includes four defeats away at the hands of America, Pachuca, Santos Laguna and Cruz Azul respectively, so they may have their work cut out to grab all three points at Tijuana on Thursday night.
