Crystal Palace – Improving Eagles worthy favourites?

Patrick Viera is now two games away from becoming only the second Crystal Palace manager in more than thirty years to guide the club into an FA Cup final. The Frenchman has seen his side benefit from a kind draw so far. Having navigated a potential banana skin against London rivals Millwall, winning 2-1 at The Den, Palace would then account for Hartlepool and Stoke here at Selhurst Park.

The Eagles boss wasn’t particularly impressed by what he saw in the previous round, citing a lack of concentration for a sub-par display. Palace scored from their only two attempts on target against Stoke, something they may find difficult replicating in their first all-Premier League match-up of the tournament. Although they do come into this tie unbeaten in five after Monday’s 0-0 draw here with Man City.

Key Stat: Monday night’s goalless draw at home to Premier League leaders Man City stretched the unbeaten run of Crystal Palace to five in all competitions (W3 D2), while their sole loss across their last nine matches came in narrow fashion against reigning European champions Chelsea.

Everton – Homesick Toffees set to come unstuck in South London?

Thursday’s hard-fought 1-0 Premier League victory at home to resurgent Newcastle was a morale booster for Frank Lampard and his Everton team, easing some of their relegation anxiety ahead of their second successive FA Cup quarter-final appearance. It marked just a fourth win in nine matches for Lampard, whose reign on Merseyside begun with a comprehensive 4-1 win at home to Brentford in the fourth round.

The Toffees were much less convincing either side of that tie, though. It took extra-time to see off the challenge of Hull City, eventually prevailing 3-2, while a second-half brace from Salomon Rondon quashed any threat of a giant-killing against non-league Boreham Wood. They have it all to do on Sunday, however, having not won any of 13 competitive away matches (D4 L9) since a 2-0 win at Brighton in August.

Key Stat: All but one of four Everton victories under Frank Lampard saw them keep a clean sheet, losing five of six encounters in which they conceded at least once.

Crystal Palace Vs Everton Betting Advice

Everton may well fell they have the bit between their teeth following Thursday night’s dramatic late victory over Newcastle which lifted them three points clear of the Premier League relegation places. However, it was another grim display from Frank Lampard’s side, creating less than 1xG for the fifth league game running having averaged a measly 0.45 xGF across this period. They remain a desperately uninspiring side.

Crystal Palace Vs Everton – Key Facts:

  • Only Wilfried Zaha has more Premier League goals in 2021/22 than Conor Gallagher, with two of the midfielder’s eight league goals this season coming in Crystal Palace’s 3-1 win over Everton at Selhurst Park in December.
  • Crystal Palace scored precisely two goals in every round so far (vs Millwall, Hartlepool, Stoke). The Eagles are unbeaten across their last five competitive matches (W3 D2).
  • Everton have racked up nine goals on route to this stage (vs Hull, Brentford, Boreham Wood). However, the Toffees remain without an away win in all competitions since last August (D4 L9).

Unfortunately for Lampard, his team come up against a Crystal Palace outfit whose intensity is likely to be too much for the visitors. As was the case when these sides met earlier in the season in a 3-1 success for Viera’s side. There is every reason to believe a repeat of that result is forthcoming. Palace, who stand to benefit from three days extra rest, are coming off a strong run of form that has seen them go five unbeaten (W3 D2).
