Dagenham Preview – Can Dagenham bounce back?
A disappointing 2-0 defeat on the opening day of the new National League season saw Dagenham being handed a loss on the road at Halifax and they’ll now return to the more familiar surroundings of their Chigwell Construction Stadium where they’ll be keen to produce an instant response against Barnet.
Although Dagenham suffered just two defeats out of their final nine matches at the end of last season, it was a disappointing campaign overall for The Daggers as the hosts finished up in a lowly 18th place on the National League ladder.
However, the hosts will have taken heart from the fact that they lost just one of their final six matches at home before the regular season was brought to a halt, gaining solid wins over Notts County and Solihull Moors, both by 2-0 margins, in the process.
Barnet Preview – Can Barnet overcome losing start?
Barnet may still be suffering from the hangover of their disappointing exit in the play-offs at the end of last season in the National League after they were handed a 2-0 defeat away at Notts County to end The Bees’ dream of promotion back to the Football League.
Last season’s National League programme was brought to a halt early due to the lockdown but the league committee decided that teams that finished the season with the highest points per game average would participate in the play-offs; Barnet had played just 35 games at that point and although they occupied 11th place, they were deemed to have one of the best averages.
The visitors were therefore a little fortunate to have made the play-offs in the first place and they started this new campaign with a heavy 5-1 thrashing at home by Eastleigh in Saturday’s opening match of the season which doesn’t bode well for their visit to Dagenham on Tuesday night.
