Doncaster Rovers Preview – Can Rovers build on their excellent win last time out?

Doncaster have been mired in relegation bother all season and they still have a huge job on their hands if they are to escape and stay in this division. Saturday’s win was their best of the season with a 2-1 success away to automatic-promotion chasing Sunderland. Rovers were comfortable for the majority of the game, only conceding in the 89th minute. It was their second successive away win in the league following a success over MK Dons who have now moved up to third.

Despite those wins, Doncaster, are still eight points adrift of safety and have played a game more than AFC Wimbledon who are the team in 20th spot which would rank as being Rovers’ objective.

Our betting prediction
Macauley Bonne to score in 90 minutes
5/4
(odds taken 2000 GMT, Monday 7 February)

It has been their form at home of late that is the biggest barrier to them climbing the table. They have lost the last five in the league at home and it is just one win in their last 10 League One matches at the Eco-Power stadium. That success was back in the middle of December – a 1-o win against Shrewsbury.

Gary McShefferey will be using the wins against MK Dons and Sunderland as the standard which this team need to reach more consistently as opposed to some of their recent home performances, most notably the 5-o loss against Rotherham and 3-1 reverse against Plymouth.

Ipswich Preview – Will Ipswich keep their fading promotion hopes alive with fourth win in five games?

Just as their opponents are eight points from safety, Ipswich are the same number below sixth place and the last of the playoff positions. They too have played one more game than the current occupant of that spot, Wycombe Wanderers. The gap would have been even bigger if it hadn’t been for a goal in the last 15 minutes from Conor Chaplin to get all three points at home to Gillingham.

That was a third win in four games for Kieran McKenna’s men and they know it will have to be a similar sort of winning run in their upcoming games if they are to close the gap on those above them.

Ipswich have one of the biggest squads in the division but they have been unable to find a consistent winning formula. Paul Cook paid with his job and McKenna is now tasked with trying to navigate a route to the playoffs. Their form on the road of late has epitomised their campaign to date. The last 10 away have seen four wins, five losses and a draw.

Macauley Bonne is the club’s top scorer with 12 goals but he has struggled in recent times. It is just one goal in his last 16 matches and they really need him to find some form of again.

Doncaster Rovers vs Ipswich Town Betting Advice

Both these teams know that they have to find consistency otherwise their respective ambitions will be too far away before much longer. Doncaster simply have to get back to winning ways at home and end this terrible run of defeats. Ipswich have shown glimpses of their ability on the road but this is a game they have to be targeting three points from.

The Tractor Boys were far too good when the sides met back in September, hitting Doncaster for six goals without reply.
