Next up is a bottom half clash in the Portuguese top flight between hosts Estoril and visitors Tondela on Sunday evening with a valuable three points up for grabs for both sides in their respective battle against relegation.
Estoril have a useful three-point cushion over Boavista who occupy the one league position above the botom two in the division, and despite some poor results of late for today’s hosts, Estoril will be looking to claim all three points today to stop the rot.
Estoril have stumbled to defeats against Benfica, Porto and Sporting Braga, but it should be noted that all three of these teams currently sit in the top four of the division, while Estoril have also posted recent wins against ‘lesser mortals’ Belenenses and Moreirense.
Visitors Tondela look doomed to relegation to the Portuguese Segunda Liga as they’ve mustered a total of just 10 points all season to date and are a massive 10 points adrift of Boavista and safety, with very little sign of an improvement coming anytime soon.
Tondela are on a run of six matches without a win in the Primeira Liga, and indeed have won just once in their last 18 league matches which paints a very gloomy picture indeed for today’s visitors as they prepare to keep a lid on Estoril.
Tondela’s away record stands at a poor 1-2-7 9/17 with their one win coming away at Rio Ave, but in general, Tondela have been very poor on their travels as they’ve failed to keep a single clean sheet on the road all season.
