Exeter City sit on the fringes of the play-off pack in League Two ahead of their clash with fifth placed Mansfield Town at St James’ Park on Saturday, as the hosts look to their solid home form to help lift them up into the top seven of the division.
Despite losing 1-0 away at Luton Town recently, Exeter have shown some impressive form on home turf in recent weeks as they’ve put together a useful seven match unbeaten run, which includes six wins and a draw.
The Grecians’ overall home record stands at 11-1-3 23/12 and Paul Tisdale’s side have also registered eight clean sheets so far this season, and they’ll be using their solid defensive foundations here again to get a result. Forward Stockley (10 goals) is Exeter’s leading goalscorer.
Mansfield Town already occupy a play-off position as they sit in fifth spot in League Two, and another three points in the west country on Saturday afternoon could see them move level on points with third placed Wycombe Wanderers.
Mansfield come into this encounter having won four of their last five, but three of these recent four wins have been achieved at their One Call Stadium, and although they’ve suffered just one defeat in their last 11 league matches, much of Mansfield’s success this season has been on home turf.
An away record of 5-6-5 17/18 shows a level of inconsistency, and although they’ve recorded recent wins at Wycombe Wanderers and Morecambe, they’ve also tasted defeat at Crawley Town and Swindon Town, and only took single points at bottom half outfits, Grimsby Town and Cambridge United in 1-1 and 0-0 draws.
In short, I believe Exeter can get at least a point here.
