Preview: We turn to Texas for our next port of call in the US. FC Dallas are riding high in the West but have had their momentum checked of late. Can they rediscover their form of old when Eastern rivals Inter Miami, without so much as a goal in four road fixtures, visit Toyota Stadium for only a second time?

FC Dallas – Toros running on empty at Toyota Stadium?

It has been a chastening month and then some for the boys from Texas. Some good news? They are still above the MLS Play-Off line in the Western Conference, sat fourth on 26 points from 17 matches. The bad news? That would be their current form, which has nosedived. Sharply. From being unbeaten in nine from March to May, to taking four of the last 18 points (W1 D1 L4). The drop-off has been quite stark.

They face an improving Inter Miami next in the knowledge they won their sole previous encounter versus the Herons, also here at Toyota Stadium, in October of 2020; but needed a stirring second-half fightback to get it done. So they know it will unlikely be easy. No doubt made more difficult by their own shortcomings. Not least defensively, giving up a minimum of two goals in all but one of the last six MLS games.

Key Stat: FC Dallas hadn’t lost any of six home games to start this MLS season, winning five straight after opening with a 1-1 draw against Toronto FC. However, they are now facing the prospect of a third successive home defeat, after recent losses to Minnesota United (1-2 scoreline) and Vancouver Whitecaps (0-2).

Inter Miami – Herons soaring in the East?

Speaking during the week in relation to news his former Premier League counterpart, Gareth Bale, had signed for LAFC, Inter Miami coach Phil Neville boldly claimed he didn’t need the Welsh superstar. Based on his side’s recent exploits, dare I say he might have a legit case? The Herons are on the up. Winning three of the last four to position themselves within three points of the Eastern Conference play-off berths.

Going further back, Neville’s men are W6 D2 L3 through their 11 previous MLS matches. Extrapolate that over the rest of the season and they will breeze a top-seven finish. However the fixture list stiffens from here, with four of the next five opponents no lower than fifth in their respective conference. The first two of those are on the road, though, where they are without a goal, let alone a win, since April (D1 L3 since).

Key Stat: Inter Miami are the only MLS team to find the back of the net fewer than five times away from home this term. The Herons netted three in seven said matches so far, last scoring more than once in an away league game in May 2021 (they are currently on a 21-game run scoring one or none away from home).

FC Dallas Vs Inter Miami Betting Advice

On the face of it, FC Dallas just about deserve to be around 8/15 to win a home match against an Inter Miami side whose return of 1.31 points per game lags behind theirs, which, at 1.53, ranks them eighth of 28 in MLS. On the evidence of their recent forms, however, could I support the hosts at such thin odds well aware that their form has regressed at a similar sort of pace to which Inter Miami’s has spiked? No.

FC Dallas Vs Inter Miami – Key Facts:

  • The clubs are meeting for only a second time, with FC Dallas bidding for a repeat of their 2-1 success, here in Texas, when they clashed in MLS of October 2020.
  • There were a minimum of two goals in the match across all eight home MLS matches for FC Dallas this year, going unbeaten through the first six but losing the past two.
  • Inter Miami average 0.43 goals per game on their travels, easily the lowest ratio in the league. In seven away matches so far, they are yet to notch more than one goal in any game and won only once.

FC Dallas are W1 D1 L4 through the last six league games. Inter Miami are W3 D2 L1 through the same length of games, recording three wins in four. Confidence will be high in the latter camp therefore. However, all of those victories were record in Miami. Their recent performance on the road meanwhile? Disastrous. With the hosts not exactly sparkling though, a small lean towards Under 2.5 Goals appeals at the prices.

Inter Miami are without a goal scored in four away, leading to their previous five away encounters going Under 2.5 Goals. That selection also landed in two of FC Dallas’ last three at home, albeit both were close-run things.
