Jerv – Losses mounting for newly-promoted outfit?

Competing at the highest level of Norwegian football for the first time, Jerv initially relished the challenge, picking up six points through their first three matches. Arne Sandsto’s side treated supporters inside the J.J Ugland Stadion – a stadium with the capacity to hold just 3,300 supporters, the smallest venue within the top division – to successive 1-0 victories, beating last season’s sixth and ninth place finishers.

Since the last of those, though, on 18 April against Kristiansund, who are now rock bottom after losing all but one of nine league games so far, Jerv have found the going tough. They go into their 11th league fixture of the campaign occupying one of two relegation positions, in 15th, four points behind Valerenga and a relegation play-off berth after taking one points from seven games, losing each of their last five.

Key Stat: After going unbeaten across their opening three home games (W2 D1), Jerv would lose all three subsequent league games at their J.J Ugland Stadion – scoring once but conceding eight in these contests.

Haugesund – On the rise after false start?

Back for their sixteenth appearance in the top division. It would take until game number six for Haugesund – who finished in the relative comfort of 11th (out of 16 teams) last time around, comfortably retaining their Eliteserien status despite not winning any of their final eight fixtures – to chalk up their first win of 2022. Remaining in the relegation zone during the early stages after opening with five consecutive defeats.

However, since registering those first points via a fairly routine 2-0 home win against Kristiansund, Jostein Grindhaug’s men have been revitalised. Three wins and three draws were to follow, with a 4-1 loss to visitors and reigning Norwegian league champions Bodo/Glimt their only blemish thereafter. Though victory last time out, twice coming from behind to beat Viking 4-2 at home, was their first in five (D3 L1).

Key Stat: Haugesund have scored two or more in five of the past seven Eliteserien fixtures, but failed to record a clean sheet in all of the previous five.

Jerv Vs Haugesund Betting Advice

Before kick-off, five points was the difference between the teams. Jerv (15th – W2 D1 L7) find themselves on the worst end of that deficit, but have played a couple games less than most above them. That includes upcoming opponents Haugesund (13th – W3 D3 L6) who, while recent results have undoubtedly improved, aren’t a million miles ahead and could finish the weekend amongst the relegation places with a poor result.

FK Jerv Vs Haugesund – Key Facts:

  • The clubs are meeting for the very first time, with this being FK Jerv’s maiden season in the top division of Norwegian football. FK Jerv sit 15 (of 16) with a record of W2 D1 L7, two places behind Haugesund who are W3 D3 L6 through 12 games.
  • FK Jerv would lose only two of their first five league games to start to the season (W2 D1), but are without a win in seven (D1 L6) – losing the last five – since a 1-0 home win over bottom of the table Kristiansund in April.
  • Haugesund have recovered incredibly well following a drastically poor start, losing one of their last seven league games (W3 D3). They’ve opened the scoring in each of the past four away matches but went on to win only one of these contests (W1 D2 L1).

Jerv really have lost their way, with five successive defeats – which includes the last three as hosts – coming into this game. They’ve been competitive in front of their supporters, though, either avoiding defeat (3) or incurring a one-goal margin loss (2) across six home games so far. Yet the form of the visitors, coupled with their vastly superior goal threat (20 scored compared to 5), makes the away side an easy selection.
