Fluminense will be keen to preserve their unbeaten record at home so far in this season’s Brazilian Serie A when they play host to lowly Chapecoense at the Maracana on Saturday afternoon, as the hosts look to maintain their challenge for a Copa Libertadores spot.
It’s still early days of course in this new Brazilian domestic season, but Fluminense have made a solid start to their new campaign, particularly at home where they’ve posted wins against Cruzeiro and Atletico PR along with a point against Sao Paulo.
The hosts hold an early home record of 2-1-0 4/1 and have suffered just one defeat in their last nine on home turf, so they’ll be hoping they can break the stranglehold that Chapecoense have had over them in previous meetings as they’ve failed to beat the visitors in their last eight encounters. Chapecoense currently occupy a disappointing 16th place on the Serie A league ladder and find themselves just one league position and one point above the relegation zone as they make their way to the Maracana for Saturday’s clash with high-flying Fluminense.
Prior to Monday’s heavy 3-0 defeat away at Internacional, Chape had put together a promising four match sequence without defeat which included a 3-2 home win against Flamengo along with three draws, but they’ve made a slow start to the season on their travels.
An away record of 0-1-2 1/8 includes heavy defeats at Atletico PR 5-1 and the aforementioned 3-0 loss at Internacional, while they’ve picked up just one win on the road from their last seven trips.
Chapecoense may have had supremacy over Fluminense in the past, but maybe that’s all about to change here.
