GATESHEAD v WELLING – Pick: 1 AH-1 – 10 March 2015

Heed look to home form for Wings win

National League Tips

Football – England – Conference Premier

Tuesday 10th March 2015 – Kickoff: 1945hrs

Gateshead’s hopes of attaining a play-off place were dealt another blow on Saturday when they lost 1-0 away at Braintree Town which now means they’re twelve points adrift of Forest Green Rovers in 5th place.

However, a home fixture tonight against struggling Welling united represents a great chance for the hosts to bounce back with a win at their Gateshead International Stadium, particularly as they hold a steady  8-5-5  30/25 record on home turf this season.

It’s been a bit of a mixed bag in terms of results recently with wins over Kidderminster and Wrexham, along with defeats to Nuneaton Town and Bristol Rovers, but they hold a good record at home against bottom half teams of  6-2-2 19/10 to date.

Visitors Welling United crashed to their eighth straight defeat in the Conference Premier on Sunday with a 1-0 home defeat to Altrincham, and they remain in the bottom four of the division as a result.

The Wings are four points adrift of 20th placed Alfreton Town who occupy the last remaining safe spot in the bottom half of the league, and with a poor away record behind them, Welling could once again have their backs to the wall at Gateshead tonight.

An away record of  3-1-14  16/36 shouldn’t cause the hosts too many problems tonight, and they’ve lost the most number of away matches along with Nuneaton Town who are also in the bottom four, with only AFC Telford conceding more away goals than them.

This should be a straightforward win for The Heed, and for extra value, I’ll back the hosts to cover the -1 line as well in what could be a 2-0 win.
