Genk Preview – Will Genk continue their resurgence in form and score a huge result here?
Genk know that anything less than a win and their hopes of pulling off an unlikely title success are over. Considering this is a team who finished the regular season in fourth and 20 points behind Friday’s opponents, the fact they find themselves in second place and now eight points adrift of Club Brugge will be a huge boost to John van den Brom and his players.
It’s the way which the split works in Belgium and Genk will be hoping to close that gap further with a home match against the current champions.
There has been a significant improvement in Genk’s recent form with five wins in their last seven games and just one defeat in that time. This is on the back of a run of just one win in nine league games which looked for all purposes of ending their hopes for a top four finish and playing in this Championship group let alone this outside chance they have to regain the title they won in 2018/19.
More realistically the aim for Genk is to finish second and ensure they are in Champions League qualification next season. They have a one point lead over Antwerp and Anderlecht at the moment but with another five games to come against their top four rivals there is plenty of twists and turns expected.

There’s no doubt that Club Brugge have been the dominant team in Belgium once again and whilst the reduction in their lead was expected due to the split, their recent form will be somewhat concerning as it has allowed the teams below them to make some ground up.
Last weekend’s draw at home to Anderlecht means it’s now just two wins in their last five league matches – two of which have been losses. That will put some doubt into the players’ mind, especially as the defeats have come against two of the teams in the Championship group.

No team has come close to Club Brugge in terms of their away from with the champions winning at least three games more than any other club in the top-flight on their travels. It’s eight wins in their last 10 away matches so that will give them confidence as they bid to exit this slightly tricky spell.
The signing of Noa Lang from Ajax for this season has been an inspired one. The Dutch striker has scored 15 goals in 25 appearances, which includes finding the net in each of his last three appearances. He’s yet to score against Genk, however.
