Genoa V Bari: Genoa to overshadow a drab Saturday!

Genoa V Bari: (Postponed)

Matt’s Tip: Genoa to Beat Bari –  2.00 Bet365

We scanned through tomorrow’s major European encounters and this was the only fixture which caught our eye, with Genoa tickling our fancy.

We won’t drag on as we’re still drowning our sorrows from an abysmal Saturday, with a nasty Millwall spoiling our premature celebrations on what would have been pretty much a full house of successful tips. However, the festive period is keeping our spirits high, although my credit card has taken a giant whack due to the missus insane shopping addiction, at the request of me demanding half-a-dozen Millwall shirts just so I could throw them straight into the bin. A pointless venture, much to how Saturday felt, yesterday, when half of the English fixtures were postponed due to some random weather condition known as snow, although us Cornish were only treated to a five minute spell of this snowy delight, leaving half of my thrilling Acca’s in pieces, with a prosperous treble turning into a single. A single which would later be ruined by blooming Millwall!!!

Genoa are strong at home – Bari are poor on the road… enough said, let’s go home?! The Genoan’s (Not at all what the locals call them but it sounds catchy nonetheless) boast a very strong record at home of 5-2-1, with their only defeat at home coming against Inter Milan, the current league leaders and Champions. However, that was a 5-0 spanking by the Italian champions but Genoa did pick themselves up by going on a four match unbeaten run, consisting of three wins and one draw. That draw, though, came in their last home outing and did end a run of three successive wins at home after previously managing creditable wins against Fiorentina (2-1),  a poor Siena (4-2) and the seasons surprise package, Sampdoria (3-0).

Bari have started the season brightly and are actually three places above Genoa in the table, albeit by goal difference. However, much like Genoa, the vast majority of Bari’s success this season has come on home soil and they’ve struggled to replicate that when on their travels,  managing just the one win in eight away outings thus far. Still, although the solitary win in eight does sound terrible, Bari have actually only lost on three away occasions, losing to Parma (2-0), As Roma (3-1) and Napoli (3-2). However, those three defeats have come in some of their more recent away outings, with Bari losing three of their last four games on the road.

Genoa will have high hopes of finishing in the European spots for the second season running, whereas Bari are already on course to complete their objective – Avoid relegation. However, Genoa are very strong at home and Bari are ordinary at best on the road, while Bari’s slap in the face at Napoli in their last away venture, losing 3-2 despite leading twice in the game, could have a lasting effect on the morale in the camp.

Genoa aren’t the most consistent of sides, but they have been a regular winner for ujs at home this season and should extend this winning pattern on Sunday afternoon at reasonable odds.

Alternatives (In case yesterday’s nightmares put you off following me):

Hernan Crespo Anytime Goalscorer – 2.75 Bet365

The former Chelsea flop has seeked out a quieter life in Italy, although Genoa’s European commitment has provided him with a livelier season then he perhaps anticipated. He has, however, bagged four league goals this season and is the clubs highest league goal scorer this season (a shared honour with four others players, proper small print stuff this), but the Argentinean did score in Genoa’s midweek exit from the Europa League, so despite the possibility of a lull in confidence within the camp, Crespo’s should remain high.
