Weather permitting, there’s a couple of matches from the National League and my next pick features a bottom half clash between Halifax Town and Leyton Orient at The Shay with both teams keen to put some daylight between themselves and the relegation zone.
Halifax come into this encounter on the back of a five game stretch without a win in the non-league top flight following draws with Dover Athletic and Maidenhead United (both 0-0 and both away from home), along with defeats to league leaders, Macclesfield Town (home and away) and at Bromley.
With four of these last five being on the road, Halifax will be relieved to return to home turf although an overall home record of 5-4-5 19/19 has produced just one win from their last eight matches – that being a 4-0 win over third from bottom Chester. The hosts have never really recovered from losing their top goalscorer, Lee Gregory, who was snapped up by Millwall a few seasons ago.
Onto Leyton Orient, and the fallen giants have found life extremely difficult in the National League this season (as many sides relegated from League Two do), as The O’s sit in a disappointing 19th place in the non-league top flight.
The London club also come into this clash on a run of winless matches (four without a win), following draws with Dagenham & Redbridge and Boreham Wood (both top half sides), but have also suffered defeats to Bromley and Aldershot Town (who occupy 7th and 2nd respectively).
The visitors have therefore had to endure a tough run of matches as well, but they may well fancy their chances of getting something from their trip up north on Tuesday night, with recent encouraging results at Maidstone United 2-0 and a point at Dagenham in a 0-0 draw.
