The Finnish Veikkausliiga returns to action this Saturday and my next pick concerns third placed Honka taking on bottom half outfit, TPS Turku, at their Tapiolan Urheilupuisto, as the hosts look to close the gap on second placed RoPS Rovaniemi.
Honka trail RoPS by a margin of five points, but this could be cut down to just two points if Honka take all three points on Saturday evening, and with just one defeat from their last nine matches overall, Honka could very well take the spoils here.
That defeat was a rare and unexpected loss to fourth placed VPS, but otherwise, Honka have been pretty reliable on home turf this season as they’ve posted a home record of 4-4-1 16/10 to date, and with forwards Kandji (8 goals) and Borjas Martin (6 goals) up front, the home side look set to add to their points tally.
TPS Turku on the other hand, have registered mixed results in recent weeks in the Finnish top flight, having recorded wins against Mariehamn and PS Kemi, they’ve also suffered defeats to VPS and HJK Helsinki, and it’s interesting to note that the two wins were both registered at their Paavo Nurmi Stadion in Turku.
However, it’s been a very different story away from home for TPS as they’ve lost four of their last five matches on the road which include defeats at Ilves, SJK, VPS and HJK, and indeed, the visitors have managed just one away win in the Veikkausliiga from their last 24 trips.
That win was a 2-1 derby win at Inter Turku back in April this year, but with an away record this season of 1-2-6 9/19, they could be set for further disappointment here on Saturday evening.
