Regarded as the country’s most fiercest rivalry, Goteborg host AIK in a battle between Sweden’s biggest clubs on Thursday, as both look for consistency at the start of the season.

IFK Goteborg Preview – Can Goteborg find their first home win of the campaign to go above rivals?
It’s only four games into the season but it will still be seen as a frustrating start for Goteborg and their coach Poya Asbaghi. Their one win so far has come against newly-promoted Varberg whilst they have also progressed into the next round of the cup with an extra-time success against Hammarby. Both of those matches have come on their travels whilst they also took a point away to Sirius in the most recent game.
The disappointing aspect so far has been their home form where Goteborg have managed just one point from their first two matches.

AIK Preview – Will AIK make it a third consecutive away win to keep pace with early leaders?
AIK were one of four teams challenging for the championship last season in what was one of the most remarkable title races seen anywhere in Europe for a long time. The Stockholm team eventually finished in fourth, just four points off top spot and ultimately unable to retain the title from the year before. Rikard Norling will be looking to put in a serious challenge to finish top this time around and their start has been promising.
Currently fourth, AIK are can go three points behind the early pacesetters Norrkoping with a win on Thursday. Incidentally, it’s the current leaders who are responsible for AIK’s only defeat so far. And it was a thumping 4-1 loss.

That is the only real disappointment in league, although they have lost heavily to Malmo in the Swedish Cup as well. It was a 2-2 draw at home to that opponent last time out in a game where they had a two goal lead and will feel they should have held on. Especially as that is against one of their likely title rivals.
Where AIK have shone is away from home in the league with good wins against Orbero and Hammarby – the latter of whom in the big Stockholm derby. It would make a very good start to season if they can beat their other huge rivals on Thursday.
