Inter Miami – Fresh legs can override lack of form?

With news dropping this past week of Gabriel Heinze’s swift removal from his position as head coach at Atlanta United, owing to poor form and player fallout, Phil Neville could be excused for taking a nervous glance over his shoulder. The Inter Miami manager prepares his team for their first taste of competitive action in nearly three weeks, against none other than the best team in the Eastern Conference.

Saturday’s postponement in New York has had a knock on effect, meanwhile, leading to The Herons assuming outright last place in the entire league. Neville’s beleaguered charges won’t have featured for 19 days, not since a 1-0 loss away in Montreal that was more comprehensive than the scoreline suggested. That a fifth consecutive loss, having won only once – 3-2 away to FC Cincinnati in May – in nine (D2 L6).

Here in Miami meanwhile, at DRV PNK Stadium, Inter Miami remain one of two MLS franchises – the other being FC Cincinnati – still to register a home win in 2021. Collecting one point from a possible 15. This while posting league-worst figures for goals scored (4) and conceded (11) at home. Ominous signs, therefore, ahead of welcoming high-flyers New England Revolution to what is not exactly a fortress.

New England Revolution – Revs rarely make it easy on themselves?

Eastern Conference pacesetters New England Revolution bounced back from their longest barren stretch of the season – a three-game winless sequence in which they acquired one of a possible nine points from clashes with FC Dallas, Columbus Crew and Toronto – last time out against struggling Atlanta United. Gustavo Bou’s seventh goal of the season sealing a 1-0 win at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

The Revs have now opened up a four point cushion atop the East. For context, Inter Miami, winless at home all season (D1 L4), sit bottom having lost their past five encounters in succession. In theory, then, this is another prime opportunity for Bruce Arena’s men to cash in on an ailing foe before the schedule takes a turn for the worst games against Philadelphia, Nashville and Montreal on the horizon.

All three sides mentioned reside in the top five places in the Eastern Conference, while two – Nashville and Philadelphia – caused them problems earlier in the season. So these are three hugely important points on the line. However, with all but the 2-2 draw at Columbus Crew among their last seven matches settled by a single goal (W4 L2), this may not be the straightforward assignment some are making it out to be.

Inter Miami Vs New England Betting Advice

The worst and best that the Eastern Conference presently has to offer come together for the first ever encounter between Inter Miami, who are winless in their last five and haven’t won a single match on home soil all season, and New England Revolution. The latter only recently returned to winning ways following a three game slump, but are deservedly favourites to double up inside DRV PNK Stadium.

Inter Miami Vs New England Revolution – Key Facts:

  • This contest pits teams at complete opposite ends of the Eastern Conference against each other, with Inter Miami (W2 D2 L7) hosting New England Revolution (W8 D3 L3).
  • Inter Miami have failed to pick up any points from their previous five MLS matches, scoring one goal across this period. They remain winless at home this season (D1 L4).
  • New England Revolution recently halted a three-game winless run (D1 L2) with a 1-0 win over Atlanta United – also ending a sequence of five games in which both teams scored.

With only one goal scored in their last five matches, all in defeat, and no win at home across the season thus far, Inter Miami have it all to do. New England recently returned to winning ways and boast more away points than any MLS team in 2021. Any win, however, is likely to be tight. Four of Inter Miami’s last five results were settled by one goal, as were seven of the eight New England victories for this season.
