Norway Kristiansund Vs Bodo/Glimt Norway

Norwegian Eliteserien
Pick: Bodo/Glimt Win & Over 2.5 Goals
Odds: 5/4
Bookmaker: Betfair
(All betting odds correct at time of writing: 15 June 2022)

Preview: Defending Norwegian league champions Bodo/Glimt are making hard work of retaining their title, already 11 points off the Eliteserien summit. A trip to bottom of the table Kristiansund, a side they did the double over last season, seems like the ideal pick-me-up then.

Kristiansund – Just happy to be playing again?

For some, a third of the Norwegian top-flight season has already been completed. Not Kristiansund, though, playing catch up after playing as many as three games fewer than some sides. This has left them with plenty to do in order to haul themselves out of danger. A gap of six points has opened up on them, in last place, and their closest competitor, while the distance to the relative safety of a relegation play-off is seven.

Kristiansund, having earned a respectable sixth place finish in 2021, undoubtedly have the ability and fixtures with which to save themselves. What they seemingly lack, however, is self-belief after collecting one of a possible 21 points (D1 L6) thus far, scoring just five. Four of those defeats were to nil, barely avoiding a fifth last time out away to Molde when halving a 2-0 deficit deep into second-half stoppage time.

Key Stat: Kristiansund would score the game’s first goal in one of seven Eliteserien fixtures in 2022. This came in their only league game this season in which they avoided defeat, against Ham-Kam at home – a game they led twice in but contrived to draw 2-2.

Bodo/Glimt – Champions faltering but with time to recover?

A third consecutive league title is looking beyond 2020 and 2021 Eliteserien champions Bodo/Glimt, even at this early stage. Kjetil Knutsen’s men are already eleven points back from early frontrunners Lillestrom. Admittedly the latter have contested a game more, but that is a hefty deficit nevertheless. Particularly for a team which hasn’t yet hit the heights expected of them, winning just three of nine so far (D4 L2).

It is a challenge they are more than capable of rising to, though, having gone unbeaten from July to December last year on their way to claiming a second league title in as many seasons. To do so, they’ll need to improve on multiple fronts. The first being a return of one win in six Eliteserien games (W1 D3 L2). The other will be shoring up a backline averaging 1.56 conceded per game and without a clean sheet all season.

Key Stat: All but one of Bodo/Glimt’s nine league matches this season saw the reigning two-time Norwegian champions score but also concede in the same match. No team has a higher percentage when it comes to both teams scoring (89%).

Kristiansund Vs Bodo/Glimt Betting Advice

Despite some questionable form of late, champions Bodo/Glimt are fully expected to win upon their return from the international break. This probably has more to do with the opposition than anything they are doing particularly well themselves. Kristiansund are favourable opponents of theirs, Bodo/Glimt winning the last seven meetings by an aggregate of 18-4. This includes wins to nil in both league encounters in 2021.

Kristiansund Vs Bodo/Glimt – Key Facts:

  • The past seven meetings between these teams were all won by Bodo/Glimt, with the winning margin in four of those encounters being exactly three goals.
  • Kristiansund are the only team in this season of the Norwegian Eliteserien yet to register a win (D1 L6). They are facing defending champions Bodo/Glimt, whose own form hasn’t been up to the high standards set previously, with one win in the last six (D3 L2).
  • These are the only teams without a clean sheet in Norway’s top division in 2022. Meanwhile all three H2Hs held in Kristiansund had featured both teams scoring prior to Bodo/Glimt winning this fixture 2-0 last season.

I wouldn’t be rushing to back another Bodo/Glimt win to nil though. For starters, they haven’t beaten anyone without conceding all season. In actual fact, they are one of just two teams yet to register a clean sheet – the other being Kristiansund. That suggests both these sides can oblige offensively, making the 15/8 and 5/4 about an away win with both teams scoring and away win/over 2.5 goals the standout picks.
