LA Galaxy – Streaky Galaxy a punter’s worst nightmare?

The inconsistency of this team is something to behold. Reaching new unwanted heights last time as they were beaten 3-2 at home by a Minnesota United outfit which, until then, had won once on the road in MLS in seven attempts since the start of the 2022 season. Remarkably, the Galaxy have now navigated their last ten league fixtures without recording the same result consecutively (form: DWLWLDLWDL).

I suppose they do, at least, make our task a little more simpler for this fifth straight home encounter. We can all but dismiss the likelihood of them losing for a second time in successive matchdays, right? Well, perhaps not. Greg Vanney’s men aren’t the force they once were at Dignity Health Sports Park, home to a Galaxy side which has suffered three home defeats across their last five such games (W1 D1).

Key Stat: LA Galaxy would fail to shutout the opposition for the sixth MLS game running when conceding three times inside the opening 43 minutes of their 3-2 home defeat to Minnesota United last Thursday.

CF Montreal – East Coast leaders up for it in LA?

Successive 2-1 victories – the first of those as hosts to a Charlotte FC that is still without a road win all season, before becoming the first visiting team to best Seattle Sounders at Lumen Field since April – marked an emphatic return to form for Montreal. The Canadians had been in something of a funk, losing three of four previously. However they now lead the Eastern Conference before this weekend’s round commenced.

Their stay atop the East could well prove short lived should history repeat itself. The Impact would lose all three recent meetings with LA Galaxy and are yet to win in Los Angeles in four tries (D1 L3). On the flip side, their record on the road this term is among the very best in the league, with only Austin, New York RB and Nashville accumulating more points away from home (14 – W4 D2 L3) than Wilfried Nancy’s CF Montreal.

Key Stat: Since a 2-0 loss to Orlando City on 27 February, in what was their opening game of this MLS season, CF Montreal have scored in all eight subsequent away league games.

LA Galaxy Vs CF Montreal Betting Advice

Almost immediately, the price about a home win, for an LA Galaxy boasting a solitary victory over Austin FC (one of those freakish encounters whereby a 1-0 deficit in 53rd minute somehow transpired into a 4-1 drubbing), in five (W1 D1 L3) here at Dignity Health Sports Park looks worthwhile opposing. The Galaxy are simply too streaky, too unreliable, to trust having won only three of the last ten in MLS, home or away.

LA Galaxy Vs CF Montral – Key Facts:

  • The LA Galaxy retained their stranglehold on this fixture when winning the latest meeting 2-1, as hosts, in September 2019. That marked a third straight win for the Los Angeles-based side, losing one of their eight (W4 D3) all-time MLS encounters vs CF Montreal.
  • However, form would seem to favour the visitors on this occasion. LA Galaxy would register maximum points once across the last six MLS matches (D2 L3). CF Montreal, meanwhile, have three wins from the last five (L2), winning the last twice.
  • There should be goals. LA Galaxy haven’t kept a clean sheet for six league games, five of which saw BTTS land. CF Montreal would score in their past eight away MLS matches but would bank only one clean sheet.

Meanwhile, after a wobble, opponents CF Montreal are flying. Victory last time out on the road in Seattle, against an in-form Sounders side, felt like a real statement of intent from Wilfried Nancy’s men. A ninth win across their last fourteen fixtures in MLS, surging to the Eastern Conference summit as reward. Moreover, their record on the road is rock-solid, losing once in seven (W4 D2 L1) since the middle of March.
