That latest victory was enough to keep SKC second in the Western Conference, two points clear of upcoming opponents LA Galaxy – who have played two games less – and trailing leaders Seattle Sounders by as many points. Victory over the former would be a huge signal of their intent then. It would also represent revenge for a chastening 7-2 defeat here in September 2019, their most recent visit to California.
Scoring first has proven a futile task in SKC’s away matches this season, though. Four of five said fixtures (W2 L3) have seen the team opening the scoring go on to lose. Both teams scored in four of these. Therefore, it is difficult envisaging a blank from a side which has so far plundered more goals than any other in MLS this term – though just seven (32%) of their 22 goals were scored on the road.
