Lazio were held to a 0-0 draw away at Genoa on the weekend which means that they’ve now won just once in the Italian Serie A in their last five matches overall, which was a convincing 4-1 win over Chievo.
They host the other team from Verona tonight, Hellas, as they bid to start climbing the league table again, and three points tonight would see them move above Empoli and Sassuolo into 7th spot just behind AC Milan.
Lazio’s overall home record stands at a reasonable 6-3-3 18/11 although their only win from their last seven on home turf was the aforementioned victory over Chievo, so they’ll be keen to return to winning ways tonight I’m sure.
Visitors Hellas Verona currently occupy the bottom spot in Serie A as they remain some nine points adrift of Sampdoria and safety, and things are starting to look very bleak for the visitors as they battle almost certain relegation.
That said, Hellas head into tonight’s encounter on the back of a very useful five-match unbeaten run which includes a 2-1 home win over Atalanta, but too many draws have prevented them from lifting themselves out of the bottom three.
Hellas’ away record again reflects this as it stands at 0-6-5 7/17 with a draw being their only realistic chance of avoiding defeat in Rome this evening.
I’ll therefore go for Lazio to take all three points tonight against the toothless attack of Hellas who have failed to score 5 times from their 11 away matches to date.
