Leicester City – Start of another FA Cup adventure?

The Foxes get their defence of the FA Cup underway at the King Power, winning both encounters there – each time against Premier League opposition in Brighton and Manchester United – in 2020-21 on route to their surprise defeat of Chelsea in the final. So they won’t be too disheartened about the draw this time around. Even more so because it will be against a favourite opponents of theirs.

Leicester scored four when the sides met here earlier in the season, with Jamie Vardy and James Maddison combining to devastating effect that day. That made it six successive home victories over the Hornets, whose last such win dates back to 2013 when the pair were in the Championship together. Moreover, the Foxes are in terrific form at home, winning four successive King Power fixtures in all competitions.

Key Stat: Having eased to a 4-2 victory when hosting Watford in a Premier League meeting in November, Leicester may well be on the prowl for further goals. They have scored 3+ in all but one of the last four matches in all competitions, and at least twice in seven of their last nine.

Watford – Alarm bells ringing in Hertfordshire?

Since making the final of this competition in 2018-19, losing heavily to Man City, Watford have suffered the ignominy of consecutive third round exits. With their record at this ground being abysmal recently – losing on their previous six visits, scoring in just two while managing to concede at least twice in each – and their situation in the league growing increasingly precarious, another early demise could be on the cards.

The 1-0 loss at home to Tottenham on New Year’s day, however unfortunate, after conceding the winning goal in the dying embers, marked a sixth successive defeat and ninth of Claudio Ranieri’s 11-game tenure so far. They are now two points above the Premier League relegation zone. Meanwhile it is 16 conceded six games (2.6 per game) to have followed that memorable 4-1 win over Man Utd on 20 November.

Key Stat: Although there is a clear issue in the defensive side of their process, Watford do have a useful habit of finding the net under Claudi Ranieri. The Italian has overseen eleven matches so far, Watford scoring in seven of these including six of the last seven.

Leicester Vs Watford Betting Advice

This may be among three all-Premier League ties but this is arguably the biggest mismatch. Leicester are playing some excellent football of late, even if results haven’t always matched the performances. They are scoring goals at will, at least twice in seven of the last nine fixtures, will be desperate to begin their FA Cup defence on a high and boast an imperious record at home to Watford, winning the last six times.

Leicester City Vs Watford – Key Facts:

  • The teams are meeting for a second time in 2021-22, with Leciester already winning 4-2 at the King Power Stadium in a Premier League encounter in November.
  • Leicester have now won each of the last six times they have hosted Watford, scoring at least twice in each of these games.
  • Jamie Vardy scored twice in that aforementioned league meeting last November, both goals being supplied by the in-form James Maddison.

It would be a surprise were there not a fair few goals. Leicester have scored eleven times in their past four games alone, with seven of these coming against either Liverpool or Man City, so should find a Watford defence that has allowed 16 goals in its last six matches very obliging indeed. The Hornets will offer a threat, though. Watford have found the net in six of their previous seven encounters under Ranieri.
