Rennes finished last season’s Ligue 1 campaign in 3rd place but perhaps could count themselves fortunate as the French top flight season was cut short due to the lockdown, although they did head into the lockdown on the back of three straight wins.
Victories over Nimes, Toulouse and Montpellier saw Rennes bounce back from a three-match sequence without a win in Ligue 1 which included defeats against Saturday’s upcoming opponents, Lille, along with a loss to Reims, both of which were away from home.
Indeed, it was Rennes’ form away from home which was sporadic as their away record of 6-3-5 13/10 indicates, where they posted just four wins from their last 12 matches on their travels, while also losing their last two visits to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on the trot.
