Lorient sit on the fringes of the play-off pack in 6th place but just one point adrift of Lens, Paris and Niort who occupy 3rd, 4th and 5th places in the French second tier respectively, so Lorient know that all three points on Friday night would see them jump into the play-off pack and into third spot.
However, to do so, Lorient will need to end a disappointing five match sequence without a win in Ligue 2 as the hosts have lost to Troyes and Sochaux along with three stalemates against Lens, Auxerre and the aforementioned Niort.
That said, both of the recent defeats were away from home, but they return to home surroundings for this Friday night clash where they’re still unbeaten so far this season with a solid 4-5-0 13/6 record under their belts.
Only 4th placed Paris also remain unbeaten at home while Lorient have also kept four clean sheets and have suffered just one defeat at home in their last 14 league matches, so they’re an extremely hard team to beat in their own backyard.
Midfielder Claude Maurice (6 goals) and forward Hamel (10 goals) look the most likely for the hosts.
Chateauroux Prediction
Onto Chateauroux and the visitors sit in the bottom half of Ligue 2 in 13th place and come into this encounter without a win from their last three league matches having lost to Le Havre and Gazelec Ajaccio along with a draw against Auxerre.
Things started looking brighter for Chateauroux on their travels though as they posted back-to-back wins at Lens and Niort who both occupy places in the play-off pack, but then lost at 10th placed Le Havre in their next match on the road.
Chateauroux hold an away record of 2-4-3 5/10 so you’re never quite sure which Chateauroux is going to turn up, but the visitors have found scoring goals away from home a bit of a problem; the visitors have failed to score in 4 of their 9 away matches to date and this could be a telling factor in the outcome of this clash.
Betting Tips Verdict
Lorient are a solid unit at home and they have the added incentive of jumping into the play-off pack with a win tonight. They should just about edge Chateauroux here.
