Maidstone United will be looking to record a third consecutive win on the bounce in the National League when they take on league leaders, Macclesfield, at their Gallagher Stadium, following a couple of useful home wins prior to this clash.
Back-to-back wins over third from bottom club Torquay United and second placed Sutton United have lifted Maidstone away from the relegation battle that ensues below them, and they now hold a reasonably comfortable nine point buffer ahead of the bottom four.
Before these two recent wins, however, Maidstone had slumped to four defeats on the trot within an overall run of eight league matches without a home win, and although their home record reads a reasonable 5-7-7 21/27, they’re sure to face a tough test on Wednesday night.
Macclesfield’s impressive five-match winning streak came to an abrupt end on the weekend when they suffered a 2-0 defeat away at play-off candidates, Dover Athletic, but The Silkmen still remain top of the non-league top flight as they make their way down to Kent for Wednesday night’s encounter with Maidstone United.
Recent wins over Guiseley, Aldershot Town, Tranmere Rovers, Maidenhead United and Barrow have helped lift Macclesfield into top spot, and they’ll be keen to return to winning ways here, especially having been on the end of a heavy 4-1 defeat to Maidstone United at their Moss Rose ground earlier in the season.
An away record of 11-2-5 25/21 boasts the most away wins in the National League for Macclesfield, and another three points here would see them move five points clear at the top of the league ahead of second placed Sutton United.
