Nantes Prediction – Can Nantes bounce back?

After recording 3 wins on the trot in Ligue 1, Nantes were brought crashing back down to earth on the weekend when they suffered a 2-1 defeat away from home at Strasbourg, so they’ll be heading into this clash at home with Rennes looking to return to winning ways.

Recent victories against Amiens, Montpellier and Reims had lifted Nantes to within striking distance of the top four, and although they were stopped in their tracks at Strasbourg, Nantes still remain unbeaten at home so far this season in Ligue 1.

The hosts possess an early solid record on home turf at their Stade de la Beaujoire – Louis Fonteneau with a record of 2-1-0 2/0 which obviously includes clean sheets in each of their 3 home matches to date; 0-0 v Marseille and back-to-back 1-0 wins against Montpellier and Reims respectively.

Nantes have lost just 1 of their last 8 matches at home in Ligue 1 and they’ve kept 4 clean sheets within this period too. Out of the last 6 meetings with Rennes though, 3 of these have ended in stalemate.

Rennes Prediction – Can Rennes move into 2nd spot?

Despite drawing their last 2 matches on the trot in the French top flight, Rennes could still move into the top two of Ligue 1 if they take all three points in Wednesday night’s clash at Nantes, but they’re without a win from their last 3 matches in the domestic top flight.

A 2-1 loss at home to Nice was followed with back-to-back stalemates with Brest 0-0 and Lille 1-1 which has temporarily stopped high-flying Rennes in their tracks after making an impressive start to this new campaign.

Rennes had come out of the blocks in explosive fashion, collecting 3 wins on the trot by securing victories against Montpellier, PSG and Strasbourg, but they’ve since slumped to 3 matches without a win which could level up the playing field on Wednesday night.

Having drawn their last 2 matches on the trot and just 1 point behind Angers and Nice, this tussle with Nantes may end up another stalemate but it wouldn’t be the worst result in the world for Rennes.
