An inter-divisional clash between Eastern Conference outfit, New York City, and Western Conference side, Colorado Rapids is next up in the USA MLS at the Yankee Stadium with New York City looking to move into one of the Final Series automatic spots.
The hosts currently occupy third place in the Eastern Conference, and although recent overall results suggest they’re going through a bit of a trough, it should be noted that four of their last five matches have been on the road.
Interestingly, their one win during this sequence was a 3-1 home win over Dallas but this certainly shouldn’t come as a surprise as New York have won their last five on the trot on home turf with wins over Columbus Crew, LA Galaxy, Orlando City, Real Salt Lake and Dallas, amidst an overall home record of 4-0-0 11/4 so far this season. Striker Villa (5 goals) and midfielder Moralez (4 goals) are the main goal threats.
Western Conference strugglers, Colorado Rapids, find themselves in a bit of a mess in these early stages of the USA domestic season as they’re second from bottom with just two wins gained from their first nine matches of their campaign.
Both of these wins were recorded at their Dick’s Sporting Goods Park with wins over Philadelphia Union and Toronto, but their exploits away from home have left a lot to be desired; their away record stands at a disappointing 0-1-3 2/7 and they’ve lost six of their last seven on their travels.
In addition, their one and only visit to New York City ended in a 5-1 thrashing back in 2016, and they could be staring down the barrel of another defeat here today.
