New York RB Preview – Will New York continue good home form and pressure the teams above them?

Last weekend’s 1-0 win over Orlando City was New York RB’s first away victory in five games and came at an important time. It was three points that kept them well embedded in the playoff zone as they sit in fifth spot, just four points behind leaders Philadelphia Union. A return home to Harrison will also be welcomed for Chris Armas’ me who have a good record at the Red Bull Arena. Ahead of the visit of Columbus this weekend, it’s four wins and a draw from their last five home games. In total this season it’s seven wins and three defeats from 11 matches and looking to better that further.

Brian White has continued his productive season with the only goal in last week’s win. The forward – who impressed for New York Red Bull’s second team last season, has now scored seven in the MLS this term. With Bradly Wright-Phillips goals drying up, it’s been a timely boost.

Columbus Crew Preview – Can Columbus follow up last week’s win to record consecutive victories for first time since March?

It’s been a really challenging season for Caleb Porter’s Columbus Crew team so far. They currently sit second bottom and a full nine points off the playoff spots. Now the season is beyond it’s midway point, the games take on even greater significance. If Crew are to be playing in the post-season then they have to put a run of wins together. That is easier said than done for a team who have managed just six victories from 23 league games. And you have to go all the way back to March for the last time they won two consecutive games. There is an opportunity to do just that this weekend, however, having defeated Montreal Impact 2-1 last time out. Avoiding defeat would also make it three straight games unbeaten for the first time this season.

This season was always expected to be a transitional one for Columbus with Porter only arriving at the club in January. He certainly brings with him a lot of experience and a winning mentality. Porter was in charge of the Portland Timbers team who won the 2015 MLS Cup. Coincidentally, his Timbers team defeated Columbus Crew in the final that year.

Key-Facts – New York RB v Columbus Crew

  • The sides last met on the opening weekend of the season with the game ending in a 1-1 draw

New York RB v Columbus Crew Betting Advice

The last time these teams met was on the first day of the MLS season. That game finished 1-1 in what was Porter’s first game in charge of Columbus. In this current situation, a draw would not be a terrible result for the visitors and would be another small step in terms of improvement. That will be challenging, of course, with New York so strong at home. They have also found their scoring form in recent times, scoring 11 times in their last four home matches. Conversely, their opponents have scored the fewest away goals in the Eastern Conference.

A home win and it would strengthen New York’s position in the playoffs even further, as well as putting pressure on the teams above them. Their form on the road has not always matched their impressive home results which is why they may not be further up the table, but this is another good opportunity for New York to get three points on the board.
