Furthermore, with no midweek fixture, Sunday’s hosts have the benefit of naming a full strength XI without any concerns regarding player fatigue.

New York City – Could recent schedule catch up with them?
The self-belief that had begun to ebb away following a four-game winless stretch has returned, in time for Sunday’s hotly-anticipated New York showdown. New York City haven’t won any of four previous meetings with their local rivals. They will, however, be able to approach this latest renewal in confident mood, backing up last weekend’s 4-2 home win over New England Revs with a slender victory at FC Dallas in midweek.
If recent results are cause for optimism, this short turnaround – especially when compared to NYRB’s, who didn’t have a midweek fixture – is not. Head coach Nick Cushing did, however, rotate his pack for Wednesday’s scrappy 1-0 win at Toyota Stadium, opting to leave the league’s leading scorer, 12-goal Taty Castellanos, at home, presumably with this clash in mind. NYCFC lie second in the East (W10 D5 L4).

Conversely, the Red Bulls haven’t had a game since last Saturday, meaning a full week or preparation and recuperation.

Plumping for draws hasn’t served me well of late (disclaimer alert) but this selection has its merits.
