Preview: Crowd trouble marred the original fixture in August, which was held at Nice‘s Allianz Riviera and led to the hosts being docked two points, one of those suspended. That’s not all, though. This rescheduled clash with Marseille must now take place at a neutral venue – inside Troyes’ Stade de L’Aube – and without any fans in attendance.

Nice – Change of venue changes everything?

On Sunday, Nice scored two or more goals for the fourth consecutive Ligue 1 home game, as Christophe Galtier’s side netted three times from the 81st minute onwards to turn a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 victory over rivals Lyon. Evann Guessand’s first senior goal for the club completed the turnaround in the first minute of four added to the second half for stoppages. Capping a memorable encounter in the south of France.

They are not by the Mediterrean Sea now, however. Losing home advantage could be a telling blow to their chances of making it four wins in five on Wednesday. Whereas Nice are unbeaten on their own patch this term (W3 D2), away from the Allianz Riviera they are evidently more vulnerable (W3 L2). Beaten to nil in two of their past three such outings, none of five away league games has seen both teams find the net.

Key Stats: 11 of the last 13 goals Nice has scored in Ligue 1 were in the second half of games, while no Nice player has scored in more away league games this season than Amine Gouiri (3).

Marseille – Goals drying up under Sampaoli?

A point against the overwhelming favourites to reclaim the Ligue 1 title, PSG, is not to be sniffed at. Especially when you’ve been second best for most of the contest. But Jorge Sampaoli has good reason to feel his team missed an opportunity to land a telling blow on the runaway league leaders. Marseille failing to capitalise during the thirty-odd minutes on Sunday that PSG were reduced to playing with only ten men.

Sunday’s goalless stalemate means L’OM have taken five of the last fifteen points available (W1 D2 L2). In all competitions, it is one win in seven (D4 L2) having failed to score in five. They’ve clearly lost their spark. And no more evident has this been than than during their current run of three competitive away matches without a goal. Ominously for them, it is Ligue 1’s meanest rearguard (Nice) up next.

Key Stat: After scoring 12 times, and at least twice, in each of their first five Ligue 1 games of this season, Marseille have since scored six in five subsequent league games and none at all in three of them.

Nice Vs Marseille Betting Advice

Leading 1-0 at the time the original fixture was suspended before being ordered to replay it at a neutral venue, Nice could come to rue the events of August 22. Marseille, on the other hand, were handed a reprieve having been on their way to a potentially costly defeat. The teams sit side by side in Ligue 1, meanwhile, with Nice’s dramatic comeback victory over Lyon at the weekend lifting them a point above L’OM.

Nice Vs Marseille – Key Facts:

  • Separated in the Ligue 1 standings by a single point, this fixture is being held at a neutral ground as opposed to Nice’s Allianz Riviera, where the original fixture had to be suspended owing to crowd trouble.
  • So while Nice are the designated home team, this is anything but a home fixture. All five Nice away Ligue 1 games this season saw only one team score (W3 L2).
  • Marseille have failed to score in three of their previous five Ligue 1 matches (W1 D2 L2) including the last two away from home. They were trailing 1-0 in the original fixture.

Third against fourth. The original encounter was cagey and tense and while the absence of fans should alleviate some nerves among both sets of players, it wouldn’t be a surprise if we were to witness a similar outcome, with goals scarce. None of Nice’s five league games played away from home this term produced both teams scoring, while this was also the case in five of the last seven Ligue 1 matches involving Marseille.
