Preview: After opening with two wins from two, are FC Nordsjaelland supporters daring to dream of a second Danish Superliga title? Nordsjaelland – Tigrene will finish MD3 atop Superliga?

After two rounds of this fledgling Superliga season we are down to two teams still with their 100% records in tact. Newly-promoted AC Horsens are surprisingly one, but no less surprising is FC Nordsjaelland – who would finish in a modest ninth place the previous season – are the other. Flemming Pedersen’s side have beaten both Odense and Brondby to assume the early lead, ahead of Horsens on goal difference.

Their start is made all the more impressive with both victories thus far coming away from home, defeating Brondby 3-1 last time. Only in 2017 have they begun by winning the first two fixtures, and on that occasion they went and won the third. So the opportunity to at least equal a personal best is there. Meanwhile, they are currently enjoying their longest unbeaten Superliga run in club history (11 games – W5 D6).

Key Stat: The Tigers, which is their club nickname, have scored 2+ in their last four Superliga games, last enjoying a longer such streak between March and April of 2021 when they went six successive games scoring at least twice.

Lyngby – Wait for long overdue Superliga win rumbles on?

For a club which has finished in the bottom two on each of their three previous stints in the Danish top-flight, a decent start upon returning to Superliga following a year spent in the second tier was needed if only to establish some early belief and confidence. They got that first time out, surging into a 2-0 lead at home to Silkeborg, who would secure a respectable third-place finish in 2021-22. The game would end 2-2.

Any efforts to atone for allowing such a commanding lead to slip on Matchday 1 fell flat in their subsequent league game, as they were beaten 1-0 on the road by the other newly-promoted outfit, AC Horsens. So, while they would finish last season strongly by winning three of the final four fixtures, back up in grade their struggles have persisted, with that now no win in their last nine Superliga matches (D2 L7).

Key Stat: Lyngby last managed a clean sheet in a Superliga fixture in March 2021, conceding in 11 consecutive top-flight matches since a 0-0 scoreline at home to Vejle.

Nordsjaelland Vs Lyngby Betting Advice

Never before has Nordsjaelland registered three Superliga wins in a row over Lyngby. On Monday, in front of their home support, the 2011-12 Danish champions can create a small piece of history having comfortably won the past two top-flight encounters between the duo. Following up a 4-1 home win in September 2020 by routing Lyngby 3-0 in their own stadium in March 2021.

Nordsjaelland Vs Lyngby– Key Facts:

  • Boasting one of only two perfect records in this season’s Danish Superliga, FC Nordsjaelland can win their opening three league games to start the season for only the second time in club history.
  • Nordsjaelland certainly have the form in which to build on their positive start. FCN are unbeaten in 11 Superliga matches (W5 D6), scoring at least twice in all of the last four (W3 D1).
  • Having earned a draw and a loss thus far, Lyngby, nicknamed ‘the vikings,’ are now up to nine Superliga games without a win (D2 L7). They’ve lost four of their past five top-flight away games, each ‘to nil’.

Above all else, though, Nordsjaelland’s early spell atop the standings is at stake. That motivation, coupled with some encouraging recent form, should ensure the points remain at Right to Dream Park. FCN are out to extend a club-record 11 Superliga games unbeaten, against opponents who are winless in nine top-flight outings and would lose four of their last five away from home in SL without so much as scoring.
