Norway – Haaland spearheading strong UNL form?

After impressive wins on the road against Serbia and Sweden, it is unlikely many will be willing to wage against Stale Solbakken’s side continuing their best ever start to a UEFA Nations League campaign. They face the weakest team on paper next, in Oslo no less, having won six of their nine previous meetings with Thursday’s opponents (D2 L1). So there is every expectation they can extend their lead atop Group B4.

Erling Haaland’s importance to this side has been laid bare already. The latest big-money recruit of Man City has scored all three strikes for ‘Lovene’ in this season’s competition, with these goals helping to extend a remarkable turnaround in form that has seen them win four successive matches for the first time in four years, and record one loss across their last 11 fixtures (W7 D3) going back to June of last year.

Key Stat: For all the praise Erling Haaland rightly receives, the Norwegian defence has crept under the radar a little. Anthony Elanga’s speculative late effort in Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Sweden denying Norway a fourth straight clean sheet, having restricted their previous seven opponents to three goals between them.

Slovenia – Out of their depth in first League B campaign?

Stepping up to League B has exposed weaknesses in this Slovenian team, who approach their third fixture still seeking their first point. Their thumping 4-1 loss away to Serbia on Sunday followed a 2-0 reverse at home to Sweden and means, as they prepare to make their way to Oslo for the first time since a 1-0 loss in this competition nearly four years ago, they sit bottom of Group B4 with a goal difference of minus five.

Such a disappointing start to this season’s tournament has come against the backdrop of some encouraging form, having been unbeaten in four (W1 D3) before getting their first campaign in the UNL second tier underway. However, it is now one win across their past seven fixtures (D3 L4). Meanwhile a fairly routine win against minnows Malta remains their sole away victory for 19 months (W1 D5 L4).

Key Stat: After shipping six goals across their opening two UNL Group B4 contests, Slovenia have managed only four clean sheets in their last 15 internationals, with three of those against Malta (twice) and Gibraltar.

Norway Vs Slovenia Betting Advice

It has been the perfect start to this season’s UEFA Nations League for Norway who boast the only perfect record in Group B4. The fact that they managed to win away from home against the two highest ranked sides in their section means there is now a clear path to promotion for Stale Solbakken’s side, who are on a four game winning streak, three being ‘to nil’, and boast wins in four of their last five when in Oslo.

Norway Vs Slovenia – Key Facts:

  • Contrasting starts has seen Norway surge to the top of the rankings in Group B4 after successive away wins over Serbia and Sweden, whereas Slovenia sit fourth of four after losing to the same opponents.
  • Norway boast a perfect record when hosting Slovenia too, with three of these encounters also seeing three or more match goals. Though not the most recent – a 1-0 victory for ‘Lovene’ in a 2018 UEFA Nations League fixture.
  • Whereas Slovenia have toiled recently on their travels (W1 D5 L4), Norway are thriving in Oslo, winning four of their previous five home internationals (D1).

With no points on the board and six conceded, Slovenia’s chances of causing an upset in the Norwegian capital seem slim. An assertion only strengthened by the sight of their recent away exploits, winning once – in Malta – in their last ten such fixtures (D5 L4). They did at least trouble the scoreline in four of the last five of those matches, which included similar daunting visits to Croatia, Serbia and Slovakia.
