Nurnberg Preview – Can Nurnberg continue promising form?
Although they finished in the bottom half of last season’s Bundesliga 2 table, Sunday’s hosts, Nurnberg nevertheless finished in solid form as the hosts lost just one of their final 10 matches of the campaign overall which included four wins and five draws as well.
Nurnberg have also performed well in their pre-season games as the hosts have won three of the four matches played, beating Zwickau 5-1, Wacker Innsbruck 3-1 and a 3-2 win against 1860 Munich, which will give them confidence ahead of their season-opener against Aue.
The hosts have also been tough to beat on home soil in the German second tier of late as well as they’re unbeaten in their last six games, and they’ve also won the previous two meetings on the trot against their visitors as well.
Aue Preview – Can Aue improve their fortunes?
Having won just two of their final eight games of last season’s Bundesliga 2 campaign, Erzgebirge Aue finished one league place lower than Nurnberg on the Bundesliga 2 ladder which included wins against Eintracht Braunschweig and Osnabruck, but also included four defeats as well.
Losses incurred against St Pauli, Sunday’s hosts, Nurnberg, Paderborn and Fortuna Dusseldorf were bad enough but the visitors also conceded a worrying total of 15 goals in the process and with just one away win from their previous eight games on the road, this could be a tough opening match of this new campaign for Aue.
