Portsmouth can extend lead with win over Gillingham

League One/Two Tips

PORTSMOUTH v GILLINGHAM

Football – England – League One Betting Tips

Top of the league, Portsmouth, entertain lowly Gillingham as the betting tips continue in League One at Fratton Park with the hosts looking to extend their lead at the top of the division.

It’s been a fantastic start to the new League One campaign for Portsmouth who still remain unbeaten this term under manager Kenny Jackett, and the hosts certainly haven’t read the script for this season as the likes of newly relegated Sunderland and Barnsley were supposed to be challenging for automatic promotion this time around.

As it is, Sunderland and Barnsley are both in the early play-off pack, but it’s Portsmouth who sit top of the division thanks to a solid home record that stands at  3-2-0  11/4 which includes wins over Luton Town, Oxford United and Plymouth Argyle. Jackett will be keen to grab all three points here though as his side have perhaps been involved in one too many stalemates to date.

Midfielders Curtis and Lowe (6 goals apiece) along with forwards Pitman and Evans (3 goals each) have provided the firepower for Pompey so far this season.

Gillingham, by contrast, have had very little to cheer about so far this season as the Kent outfit sit in the relegation zone, third from bottom in League One following a run of eight league matches without a win.

Having lost 6 of these last 8 matches, The Gills could be forgiven for not relishing their trip down to the south coast to face an in-form Portsmouth outfit, especially as the visitors have lost three of their last four away from home.

Defeats at Walsall, Barnsley and Rochdale have contributed towards an ordinary looking away record of  1-1-3  6/9 and although they managed to somehow beat Accrington Stanley 2-0 recently, the fact still remains that the visitors have won just once from their last nine on the road with just one clean sheet during this sequence.

My betting tips therefore back Portsmouth for this encounter.
