Romania – Can Romania build on home win over Finland following consecutive away defeats?
Edward Iordanescu has been in charge of the Romanian national team for six months following spells in charge of the two clubs in the domestic championship, and he eventually managed a first win since taking control courtesy of a 1-0 success at home to Finland on Saturday. Nicusor Bancu got the only goal of the game and it gives them a chance of still being successful in this group. The section started in disappointing fashion following defeats away to Montenegro and Bosnia Herzegovina, so it was vital they picked up a win last time out.
Despite the win, it still leaves them bottom of the group and they’ll know another win is required if they have desires of finishing top and getting promotion to the top league.
Montenegro Preview – Will Montenegro follow up their home win against Romania to boost top spot hopes?
It could not have been a better start for Montenegro in terms of securing a comfortable and deserved win over Romania but they have struggled in their two most recent games. A two goal reverse away to Finland was followed up with a 1-1 draw at home to Bosnia over the weekend, requiring an equalising goal from Adam Marusic – who plays his football in Serie A for Lazio.
Miodrag Radulovic has been in charge for around 18 months and it’s been something of a mixed bag. Montenegro are very competitive at home and it’s just one defeat in their last six. But it’s a different story on the road where they have lost four of their last five without managing a goal and conceding nine goals in the process. And that was after an encouraging start under Radulovic on their travels.

Another away defeat here would be damaging for their hopes of finishing top. They’re currently a point off leaders Bosnia who they travel to face in September before finishing the campaign with a home game against Finland.
Capatain Stevan Jovetic has been the talisman for this group of players for so long but the Hertha Berlin forward has not featured in this run of Nations League games.
Romania vs Montenegro Betting Advice
Montenegro were dominant when the teams met 10 days ago but this has the feel of a very different game. Romania are stronger at home whilst the visitors away struggles continue – not only in their search for points and results, but also goals.
Depending on the result in the other game then the winner could end this spell of matches on top of the section, giving them a real boost heading into the start of Euro 2024 qualification and then the resumption of the Nations League in September.
Key Facts – Romania vs Montenegro Betting Tip
- Romania pulled out a much-needed victory when beating Finland 1-0 to give them their first points of the section
- The visitors have lost four of their last five away games without scoring a goal
- Montenegro were 2-0 winners when the teams clashed back on the 4th of June
With Montenegro’s form on the road, I’m backing Romania to get revenge for the defeat at the beginning of June and going above their opponents in the process.
